grown is unique, or cr<strong>it</strong>ical information, obviously proprietary, has been left out. To this day, I do not<br />

know what is missing. However, the growers at Morel Mountain, the company using the patented<br />

method, should be complimented for their skill at mushroom cultivation. They are accomplishing a<br />

feat in mushroom cultivation that has foiled the attempts of skilled mycologists worldwide.<br />

I have some insights which may be useful in the cultivation of a related species, the famous<br />

Black Morel, Morchella angusticeps. My research has concentrated on the cultivation of the<br />

Black Morel because this species is the most common Morel in western Washington State, where<br />

I live. All readers of this book are encouraged to experiment w<strong>it</strong>h Morel cultivation, and develop<br />

their own, unique techniques which do not come into legal conflict w<strong>it</strong>h the patented processes.<br />

To date, all cultivated mushrooms can be grown by more than one method. For instance, Oyster<br />

mushrooms can be grown on straw or sawdust or coffee plants. Over the years many techniques<br />

have evolved for culturing Shi<strong>it</strong>ake, Nameko, Reishi and Shaggy Manes. W<strong>it</strong>h more experimentation,<br />

Morels will be no exception.<br />
