is patented, and is still mystifying to all but them.<br />

a!., 1986 & 1988). The patent describes a technique whereby the Morel mycelium is grown from a<br />

nutr<strong>it</strong>ious food source into a non-nutr<strong>it</strong>ious medium. Once physically separated, the myceliumforms<br />

scierotia in the nutr<strong>it</strong>ionally impoverished substrate. After a period of dormancy the sclerotia are saturated<br />

w<strong>it</strong>h water, swell, and when subjected to specific environmental cond<strong>it</strong>ions metamorphosize<br />

into Morel mushrooms.<br />

One test of a patent is that <strong>it</strong> is reproducible. In the 7 years since publication, I know of no mycolo-<br />
