It is highly unlikely a mushroom would<br />

manufacture 1% of <strong>it</strong>s biomass in a crystalline<br />

form for no evolutionary advantage. As<br />

drugs, the active compounds—psilocybin &<br />

psilocin—have virtually no apparent addictive<br />

potential for humans. These compounds act as<br />

short-lived anti-metabol<strong>it</strong>es for serotonin, a<br />

primary neurotransm<strong>it</strong>ter in the mammalian<br />

Comments: Mushrooms of this complex are rare<br />

in the wild. W<strong>it</strong>h the expansion of civilization, debris<br />

piles of chipped wood have accumulated<br />
