living in Bournemouth, Dorset & Poole<br />

Prizes<br />

Adults: 1 st prize for adults £25<br />

Children: 1 st prize in each Key Stage<br />

category £10 book token.<br />

2 x Runners up £10<br />

2 runners up in each Key Stage will<br />

receive book prizes.<br />

The Competition<br />

Adults: Write a story on any theme up to<br />

1,200 words.<br />

Children: Key stages 1, 2 and 3, write a story<br />

for grown-ups to read in no more than<br />

500 words.<br />

Cost<br />

Adults: £4 per entry Children: free<br />

How to enter<br />

Adults: please type your stories with<br />

the title on A4 paper, double line<br />

spacing, single sided. On a separate<br />

cover sheet add your name, address,<br />

email, phone number, story title and<br />

number of words.<br />

Children: your stories may be written<br />

by hand.<br />

Only your story and the title should be<br />

on your entry. Attach a cover sheet<br />

with your name, address or email,<br />

phone number, the number of words,<br />

which Key Stage you are and ask an<br />

adult to sign this saying it is your own<br />

work.<br />

Closing date and where to send your entries<br />

Closing date Friday 5 April (Midnight BST) (entries must be postmarked by<br />

or on this date).<br />

Send your stories by post (sorry no email entries) with your covering sheet<br />

and cheque payable to Bournemouth Festival of Words to: BFoW, Suite 94, 2<br />

Lansdowne Crescent, Bournemouth BH1 1SA.<br />

Rules:<br />

Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must not have<br />

been previously published, in print or online (including websites, blogs,<br />

social network sites), or broadcast or won or been shortlisted in another<br />

writing competition.<br />

Entrants may submit as many entries as they want. However, no<br />

competitor may win more than one prize. For adults each should be<br />

accompanied by £4 entry fee.<br />

Entries without sufficient postage to reach our address will not be<br />

collected or paid for at the Post Office.<br />

Entries will only be returned if you enclose a stamped addressed<br />

envelope with your entry (please ensure you have sufficient postage).<br />

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into<br />

or refunds given.<br />

Entries not complying with the competition rules will be disqualified.<br />

Copyright of the story remains with the author, however, Bournemouth<br />

Festival of Words reserves the right to publish the winning entries on its<br />

website as well as retaining unrestricted rights to use the winning<br />

stories and any related material for PR purposes.<br />

Winners will be notified by email or post.<br />

All those short-listed will be invited along to the prize-giving event on<br />

the 31 May, the last event of the Festival. (Sorry we are unable to<br />

cover any travel or other costs to enable you to attend).<br />
