Tasar host plant based integrated farming system
comprising of leguminous and other cash crops
been found economically viable and remunerative
for the tasar growers. Net income from the system
ranges from Rs. 23,000 to 41,000/ha with additional
income of Rs. 4000 – 18000/- per hectare from
intercropping of the leguminous crops
Integrated farming system with vegetable and
horticultural crops increased the farmers income
Combination of fodder crop, horticulture, forestry,
animal husbandry etc., Mulberry based integrated
farming system has effectively brought about
enterprise diversification for sustainability and also
augment income generation through better
management of farm resources. The highest net
farm income at farmer’s field comes from Field
crop+ mulberry +Vegetable cropping system. It is
being adopted by farmers having sufficient
resources.
Integrated disease management technologies have
been developed for control of foliar and soil borne
diseases of mulberry involving microbial agents like
Trichoderma species, Pseudomonas species etc.,
Similarly a new bio-formulation for control of root
rot disease in mulberry ‘Navinya’ a 80% plant based
products developed for effective control of the
disease in mulberry gardens.
Pupa oil is rich in PUFA (Poly unsaturated fatty
acid). It contains oleic, palmitic, stearic, palmitoleic,
linolenic, linoleic, arachidic, myristic, lauric acids
and phospholipids and used as massage oil, paints,
varnish soaps, candle industry, pharmaceuticals,
bio-diesel, and plasticiser.
Sericin refined from cocoon/silk contains 18 amino
acids besides 8 essential amino acids, which are
necessary for human body. It is an excellent protein,
antioxidant, coagulant, and chemo protective and
nutrient supplement. Sericin can be used as raw
material for manufacturing moisturizing creams and
lotions in cosmetics because of its high moisture
absorption and preservative ability. The Institute
also developed a sericine rich (95%) silkworm hybrid
for this purpose.
