De-oiled pupa powder contains important minerals
like Na, K, Ca, and P. vitamins, especially vitamin B2,
nicotinic acid, folic acid and vitamin B1. Pupal
powder is generally used as human food
Identified the botanical extracts for control of root
rot and mealy bug: 5% Citronella oil performed
better towards controlling of root mealy bug
(Paraputo sp.) followed by 5% Neem oil and 5%
Neem leaf extract without any adverse effect on
silkworms rearing.
The technology is being popularized to generate
income by the farmers to compensate less income
from sericulture due to low leaf yield during
establishment period of mulberry garden. Mulberry
in combination with green gram, cowpea, mustard
and amaranth during March-May, June-Aug, Sept-
Nov and Dec-Feb seasons have been identified to
fetch additional income by the farmers.
Extent of coverage: 3.5 acres covered under
validation
Vermicompost has been produced successfully by
utilizing sericulture and other farm waste. The
technology has been passed on at farmer’s level
and 18 such vermeries have been developed by
farmers in Jammu region.
Demonstrated and popularized the technology
through extension services of State Sericulture
Department. Practice with incorporation of
Dhaincha (Sesbania rostrata) with 5 MT FYM and 1
