’There is tumult in the North, the region
of the mighty winds. At first like the tremor
of leaves in a breeze, it increases to a gale,
it crashes like a tornado; the thunder bellows,
the earth quakes, the sea roars, its
waters surge and swell, an awful night with
blackest tempest enshrouds the world. But,
above the crash and convulsion of the elements
I hear a Voice, clear and low, though
so terrible--it is the voice of God. I know
not the words, but the same meaning always
is given: "The end of all flesh is come; for
the earth is filled with violence through
them. Behold, I will destroy them with
everything upon the earth. But with thee
will I establish My covenant, and will save
thee and thy family. Build a boat, wide and
commodious; it shall be thy refuge when the
floods of water overwhelm the guilty world."
