Heard you aught, my brother?’ And with<br />

awe I answered, ’Nay[’ He continued:<br />

’There is tumult in the North, the region<br />

of the mighty winds. At first like the tremor<br />

of leaves in a breeze, it increases to a gale,<br />

it crashes like a tornado; the thunder bellows,<br />

the earth quakes, the sea roars, its<br />

waters surge <strong>and</strong> swell, an awful night with<br />

blackest tempest enshrouds the world. But,<br />

above the crash <strong>and</strong> convulsion of the elements<br />

I hear a Voice, clear <strong>and</strong> low, though<br />

so terrible--it is the voice of God. I know<br />

not the words, but the same meaning always<br />

is given: "The end of all flesh is come; for<br />

the earth is filled with violence through<br />

them. Behold, I will destroy them with<br />

everything upon the earth. But with thee<br />

will I establish My covenant, <strong>and</strong> will save<br />

thee <strong>and</strong> thy family. Build a boat, wide <strong>and</strong><br />

commodious; it shall be thy refuge when the<br />

floods of water overwhelm the guilty world."<br />
