drew from my impetuous brother a violent<br />

expression of indignation. Fearing that he<br />

might fall a victim to his rashness, notwithst<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

his former deliverance, I expostulated<br />

with him, but he gave no heed to my<br />

caution.<br />

"One evening, after he had with unusual<br />

eloquence addressed a great assemblage, I<br />

remained upon the mountain <strong>and</strong> conversed<br />

with him till the pale moon rose over the<br />

marble city. I spoke of the desperate condition<br />

of the world, its entire subversion by<br />

the Evil Ones. For myself I feared nothing,<br />

my unobtrusive life exempted me from suspicion<br />

or attack; but I portrayed his danger,<br />

<strong>and</strong> besought him by the love he bore his<br />

young bride <strong>and</strong> me, his only brother, to be<br />

more moderate in his attempts at reformation.<br />

I took his h<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> well I remember<br />
