Bible as masculine; <strong>and</strong> there are many incidents related<br />

in the Scriptures where they assumed human form<br />

as men. Abraham entertained angels, "sons of God,"<br />

unawares (Genesis 18); <strong>and</strong> Jacob wrestled with one<br />

The expression "Star-spirits" is drawn from the<br />

passage Job 38:7: "The morning stars sang together,<br />

22:16) Lucifer is also referred to as a "son of the<br />

morning"; <strong>and</strong> there are yet others, for Lucifer, in<br />

his ambition, said: "I will exalt my throne above the<br />

stars [bright shining ones] of God." (Isaiah 14:13)<br />

The victory of Israel over Jabin <strong>and</strong> Sisera in the<br />

days of Deborah is ascribed to the fact that "the stars<br />

in their courses fought against Sisera," which is understood<br />

to mean that the holy angels were on the side<br />

of the Israelites, directing the battle.--Judges 5:20.<br />

"The sons of God came in unto the daughters of<br />

men, <strong>and</strong> they hare children to them; the same became<br />

mighty men which were of old, men of renown."<br />

(Genesis 6:4) In this passage reference is made<br />

the offspring of the illicit union between the "sons of<br />

God" (the fallen angels designated in this novel as<br />

Devas) <strong>and</strong> the "daughters of men." Throughout this<br />

story these children are called Darv<strong>and</strong>s.
