the ravening floods when we were utterly<br />

helpless. Forever blessed be His name l He<br />

will always be mindful of the obedient. He<br />

hath chosen us out of all the world, unworthy<br />

though we are, to continue the human<br />

race. Now we have come through this<br />

great flood <strong>and</strong> remain alive, let us now partake<br />

of food that our strength may revive<br />

for I perceive that you all look pale <strong>and</strong> wan<br />

from want of food <strong>and</strong> sleep. Later my good<br />

wife will prepare you a soothing drink of<br />

herb leaves which will induce sleep."<br />

Accordingly we ate food <strong>and</strong> partook of<br />

the warm drinks, then retired for a much<br />

needed rest. My head scarcely touched the<br />

pillow of my couch ere I was lost in a profound<br />

slumber, too deep to admit of dreams.<br />

When I awakened I was surprised to find<br />

that the water had become comparatively<br />

calm. We seemed to have settled into a sheltered<br />

place, where we were not shaken by<br />

billows <strong>and</strong> winds.
