came plunging across the plain, throwing his
trunk in the air and sniffing in fear as the
lion had done. He also came near and suffered
himself to be led quietly to his quarters
in the boat. Soon a frightened stag and
doe peeped timidly over the hill and surveying
our party for a moment, came to the
place where we were standing; two beautiful
dogs followed them, but looked not upon
the game, only upward at the sky and
howled.
