When I awoke I was as one dead, without<br />

sense or motion, lying prone upon the cold<br />

earth.<br />

How long I was insensible I know not, but<br />

with returning consciousness I heard the<br />

voices of men in great agitation. "It surely<br />

seems," said one, "that the old monomaniac’s<br />

words are to come true. What doth it all<br />

portend?" "Listen," exclaimed another,<br />

pausing breathless near the place where I<br />

was; "heard you not a sigh? What fills the<br />

air? A crash, a breath, a whisper l Let us<br />

fly[ Whither shall we go? Where is Satanas?<br />

Why comes he not to control the<br />

Power of the Air?" In terror they ran forward,<br />

stumbling in the darkness, leaving me<br />

scarcely less affrighted than themselves.<br />

At this moment of perplexity as I stood<br />

in bewilderment, not knowing where to turn,<br />

I heard one calling my name---"Aloma,
