The giant sons must die;<br />

The Lords of Light<br />

In caverns dark must lie,<br />

In rayless night.<br />

E’en Mercy sighs, "Too late!"<br />

’Neath prison bars they wait,<br />

In blind dismay,<br />

The dreadful day<br />

That ! seals their fate<br />

Like the last quiver of a bell the sound<br />

dies in the distance. But who is he that remains<br />

enwrapped in mournful thought?<br />

His face is stern <strong>and</strong> sad, his h<strong>and</strong> rests upon<br />

the hilt of a sword, his black garments rustle<br />

in the night-breeze like withered leaves, <strong>and</strong><br />

his voice, blending with the melancholy<br />

sound, -- whispers<br />

"O h<strong>and</strong>, be firm; heart, be unrelenting; ye<br />

do but execute the decrees of the Most<br />

High."<br />

Who is he that joins not his peers in their<br />

flight from the doomed earth? It is Azelles,<br />

Angel ! of Death<br />

I close my heavy eyes, <strong>and</strong> press my throb-
