Again was heard the voice of the great<br />

Prince--"Who will lead?" All cried, "Hesperus!<br />

Hesperus!" Hesperus answered:<br />

"And hereafter reign, the equal of Satanas<br />

the King." The fires burned low, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

features of the great King grew dark, but he<br />

answered gr<strong>and</strong>ly: "Agreed, right royal<br />

prince. Thou only, besides Satanas, canst<br />

discern the forces. Thou, Hesperus, never<br />

clouded by fumes or Homa, never shaken<br />

with throbs of passion l<br />

"Summon thine associates in peril <strong>and</strong><br />

glory; seven is the mystic number. Comm<strong>and</strong><br />

Loeda <strong>and</strong> Orba, twain <strong>and</strong> twain;<br />

fear not to call Koradin the mighty. At<br />

midnight depart; thou carest not for banqueting.<br />

Away! Away! Our peril admits<br />

Mid flashing lights <strong>and</strong> sounds that jarred<br />

the Tower, with words <strong>and</strong> signs obscure<br />

<strong>and</strong> awful, the Devas departed, all but the<br />

Lord Hesperus, who retired to his chamber<br />

<strong>and</strong> closed the door.
