33.5.2 +iDNSn — Define Domain Name Server IP Address<br />

Syntax: <strong>AT+i</strong>DNSn[p]=IP<br />

Parameters:<br />

n=1..2<br />

Command Options:<br />

Sets the Domain Name Server IP Address.<br />

Nonvolatile Parameter Database<br />

Use n=1 to define the Primary IP address of the Domain<br />

Name Server associated with the ISP.<br />

Use n=2 to define the alternate IP address.<br />

IP::=...<br />

where,<br />

: [000..255]<br />

p= Optional communication platform modifier for iChip Plus.<br />

Where, p=‘S‘ to force the (serial) dial-up platform and p=‘L‘<br />

to force the LAN platform. p may be used to select any<br />

platform. If p is omitted, the active platform will be used.<br />

IP=0.0.0.0 Empty: No DNS defined.<br />

IP= IP add. will be used to communicate to the Domain Name<br />

Server on the Internet.<br />

Default: Empty. No DNS defined. The DNS must be defined ad-hoc.<br />

Result Code:<br />

In a LAN environment, an empty DNS (0.0.0.0) will acquire a<br />

value from the DHCP server (if DIP is 0.0.0.0).<br />

In a dial-up environment, the ISP will assign a DNS IP to an<br />

empty DNS, if the ISP supports RFC 1877 (PPP Extensions<br />

for Name Server Addresses).<br />

I/OK If IP is an empty or legal IP address.<br />

I/ERROR Otherwise<br />

<strong>AT+i</strong>DNSn[p]~IP Temporarily sets the DNS IP addresses. The permanent values<br />

will be restored after completing the next session, whether the<br />

session was successful or not.<br />

<strong>AT+i</strong>DNSn[p]? Reports the current main/alternate DNS address. If no DNS<br />

address exists, 0.0.0.0 will be returned. The reply is followed<br />

by I/OK.<br />

<strong>AT+i</strong>DNSn[p]=? Returns the message ‗IP Addr.‘ followed by I/OK.<br />

Note: This parameter may be omitted when the target server is defined with an IP<br />

addresses rather than a symbolic name.
