WOUND CLASSIFICATION • Dirty – SWI risk (>30%) – Purulence or abscess, preoperative perforation of GI, oropharyngeal, biliary, or tracheobronchial tracts, penetrating trauma > 4 hours old. – Examples include: - Perforated appendicitis with abscess formation – Antibiotics are utilized for treatment and not prophylaxis
