WOUND CLASSIFICATION<br />
• Dirty<br />
– SWI risk (>30%)<br />
– Purulence or abscess, preoperative perforation of<br />
GI, oropharyngeal, biliary, or tracheobronchial<br />
tracts, penetrating trauma > 4 hours old.<br />
– Examples include:<br />
- Perforated appendicitis with abscess formation<br />
– Antibiotics are utilized for treatment and not<br />
prophylaxis
