Lubrication<br />

1. Oil to spec. 57544 Grade 2 shall be applied sparingly to :<br />

(a) Ratchet wheel hub inner diameter and bearing pin.<br />

(b) Ratchet wheel hub outer diameter.<br />

(c) Wiper tips. The lubricant shall be distributed over the bank contacts<br />

by rotating the wipers electrically.<br />

(d) Collector rings.<br />

(e) The felt inserts in the armature restoring springs shall be steeped in oil<br />

before assembly.<br />

2. Oil dag to spec. 50227 shall be applied sparingly to :<br />

Operation Tests<br />

(a) All teeth of the ratchet wheel.<br />

(b) Striking face of the armature back stop.<br />

(c) Striking face of pawl stop.<br />

(d) Knife edge and sides of armature locating lug.<br />

(e) Point of attachment or armature restoring springs to armature.<br />

1. The electrical operation shall be tested with a spark quench circuit of 1 μF<br />

and 200 ohms, connected to earth from a point between the magnet coil<br />

and the interrupter contacts. The selector shall be mounted vertically with<br />

the magnet assembly uppermost.<br />

2. Hunting Test<br />

2.1 With the nominal voltage applied to the magnet coil in series with the<br />

interrupter contacts, the wipers shall rotate smoothly and reliably and the<br />

hunting speed shall be within the following limits :
