DANCING TO CONNECT<br />

in einem einwöchigen Workshop haben Jug<strong>end</strong>liche von 5 Stuttgarter Schulen mit Tänzern<br />

der New Yorker Dance Companies „Battery Dance Company“ und „Dr<strong>as</strong>tic Action“ eigens<br />

choreographierte Tänze eingeübt, die sie zur Eröffnung der American Days heute darbieten.<br />

„Dancing To Connect“ bedeutet Kompetenzentwicklung durch die Integration von Tanz,<br />

Musik und Englisch als Arbeitssprache. Den mitwirk<strong>end</strong>en Schülerinnen und Schülern<br />

eröffnet sich im Rahmen dieses deutsch‐amerikanischen Kulturprojekts die Möglichkeit, ihr<br />

kreatives Potenzial, ihren Teamgeist und ihre Toleranz zu entdecken sowie ihre<br />

Englischkenntnisse spielerisch zu verbessern.<br />

For thirtythree years, Battery Dance Company h<strong>as</strong> followed its quest for artistic excellence<br />

and social relevance. Whether performing on the worlds’ stages, teaching in New York City<br />

public schools or fostering international cultural exchange, Battery Dance is a collaborative<br />

team that gains through the creative vision, commitment and talent of its various members<br />

and partners. Founded and led by choreographer Jonathan Hollander, a Fulbright Lecturer,<br />

Battery Dance began working in <strong>German</strong>y in 2006 through the award‐winning “Dances for<br />

the Blue House” project in Breisach and Freiburg. „Dancing to Connect“ (DTC) followed in<br />

2007 in Freiburg, featured <strong>as</strong> the grand finale of the Theater Freiburg Se<strong>as</strong>on. Now, in<br />

2008, Battery Dance h<strong>as</strong> developed DTC projects in Stuttgart, Berlin and Freiburg, in which<br />

18 high schools will take part.<br />

DRASTIC ACTION is a New York City‐b<strong>as</strong>ed modern dance company under the<br />

artistic direction of choreographer Aviva Geismar. Geismar‘s dances stem from a f<strong>as</strong>cination<br />

with the nuances and paradoxes of human behavior. In July 2006 Dr<strong>as</strong>tic Action, in<br />

partnership with the Battery Dance Company, led „Dances for the Blue House“, a<br />

performance and education project focusing on the legacy of the Holocaust. Geismar<br />

created a site‐specific piece in the streets of Breisach, <strong>German</strong>y, the birthplace of her<br />

grandparents, which paid tribute to the town‘s lost Jewish community and the work by local<br />

residents to memorialize that community. The company is delighted to be back in <strong>German</strong>y<br />

for a third summer of teaching and performing.<br />
