<strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> Broncos Toss Arizona <strong>State</strong> Sun Devils 33-7<br />
BOISE, Idaho – After conceding seven-straight points in the opening two bouts, the <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
wrestling team (6-5, 2-1 Pac-12) won the remaining eight bouts to defeat Pac-12 foe Arizona<br />
<strong>State</strong>, 33-7 at Taco Bell Arena, Sunday.<br />
Brian Owen (133) and Jason Chamberlain (149) dominated their opponents as each earned five<br />
team points from technical falls in the third period. The result was Owen’s first technical fall of the<br />
season while Chamberlain had earned one earlier in the season.<br />
Chamberlain, who entered the match ranked second in his weight class, has now outscored<br />
opponents 213-74 this season.<br />
Jake Swartz (184) and Scott Bacon (174) each earned bonus points during the match as well.<br />
Swartz tallied his team-best eight major decision of the year, defeating Kevin Radford 11-2 and<br />
improving his overall record to 23-3 this season.<br />
The major decision was Bacon’s third as the Republic, Wash., native has accumulated an 11-4<br />
record in his last 15 bouts.<br />
Redshirt senior Josh Strait earned a dramatic win in his first action of the season. Strait was up 1-<br />
0 heading into the third period against Matt Kraus but gave up a reversal with just over a minute<br />
remaining, giving Kraus a 2-1 edge. With about 50 seconds in the bout Strait was able to escape<br />
and level the score line at 2-2. Both wrestlers looked for their shots and Strait would be the first<br />
and last to find a successful one, getting a takedown at the seven-second mark to win 4-2.<br />
George Ivanov and Holden Packard provided some insurance for the Broncos at 157 and 165<br />
pounds respectively. Each traded takedowns for escapes all match as Ivanov finished with a 12-5<br />
advantage and Packard an 8-4 edge.<br />
Junior Cody Dixon battled with No. 5 Jake Meredith into the third period where he trailed 5-2.<br />
Meredith, however, sustained an injury during the bout and was forced to forfeit after his injury<br />
time expired giving the Broncos six more points to cap things off.<br />

<strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> Heads to Cliff Keen Invitational<br />
LAS VEGAS - <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> wrestling will look to get back on track this weekend when it heads to<br />
the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Friday, Nov. 30 - Saturday, Dec. 1. The first and second<br />
rounds of the tournament will be held during the morning session, Friday at 9 a.m., followed by
the quarterfinals which will take place during the 6 p.m. session. Semifinal bouts will begin at 10<br />
a.m., Saturday followed by finals at 3 p.m.<br />
IN THE RANKINGS: The Broncos feature three wrestlers ranked in the Amateur <strong>Wrestling</strong> News<br />
Division I College Rankings. Those four are No. 16 Brian Owen (133), No. 4 Jason Chamberlain<br />
(149) and No. 11 Jake Swartz (184).<br />

STIFF COMPETITION: All four of <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong>'s dual matches this season have been against<br />
teams who were ranked in the <strong>USA</strong> Today/NWCA/AWN Top 25 at some point this season.<br />
Wyoming (No. 19), Minnesota (No. 1) and Oregon <strong>State</strong> (No. 15) are each still in the rankings<br />
while North Dakota <strong>State</strong> is currently receiving votes.<br />
FAMILIAR FOES: Senior George Ivanov defeated No. 9 RJ Pena 11-5, in last week's dual. The<br />
meeting was pair's sixth since the beginning of last season. Ivanov holds a 4-2 record against<br />
Pena all-time but was ousted by his rival from the 2012 Pac-12 Tournament.<br />
COWBOY UP: Jake Swartz will be aiming for his second tournament title of the season after<br />
winning his division of the Cowboy Open. Swartz is currently 7-1 this season and 3-0 in<br />
tournament competition.<br />

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - The <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> wrestling team will compete in its first Pac-12 dual<br />
of 2012-13 season this weekend when it takes on No. 15 Oregon <strong>State</strong> at Central Valley High<br />
School in Spokane Valley Wash., Saturday. The meet is slated for a 5 p.m. (PT) start.<br />
Return to Washington: <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> dons seven members of its 2012-13 squad from the state of<br />
Washington. The projected lineup for Saturday's meet is highlighted by University High School<br />
(Spokane, Wash.) graduate Brian Owen.

The Beavers picked up five wins in the 21-18 defeat in Corvallis. The Pac-12 foe has six wrestlers<br />
ranked in American <strong>Wrestling</strong> News' top 25. The Broncos will face top-25 competition with No. 6<br />

Stiff Competition: The dual against Oregon <strong>State</strong> will be the fourth-consecutive match against<br />

season the Broncos have faced No. 1 Minnesota, No. 19 Wyoming and No. 24 North Dakota<br />

Home Away From Home: The match against Oregon <strong>State</strong> is officially <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong>'s first home<br />
match of the 2012-13 season. As far as travel is concerned, the advantage is narrowly in <strong>Boise</strong><br />
<strong>State</strong>'s favor. The trip from <strong>Boise</strong> to Spokane Valley spans 378 miles while the Corvallis to<br />
Spokane Valley covers 444 miles.<br />
Whole Again: The Broncos were put in deficits during their first two matches after giving up six<br />
points by forfeiting a weight class. The Blue and Orange started its first full lineup against<br />
Minnesota last week.<br />

<strong>Boise</strong> Broncos Fall to North Dakota <strong>State</strong><br />
Fargo, N.D. - The <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> wrestling team (0-2) fell by a score of 24-15 at North Dakota <strong>State</strong>,<br />
Friday, picking up wins in four bouts.<br />
The Broncos fell into an early hole after dropping the first two bouts at 157 and 165 pounds by<br />
decision, but those fortunes would change when sophomore Scott Bacon took to the mat at 174<br />
pounds. After little action in the first period, Bacon rode his opponent for a majority of the second<br />
period. He would concede a takedown midway through the third frame to go down1-3, but<br />
responded with a reversal with less than a minute left in the bout. The move tied the score at 3-3<br />
and Bacon held on to earn the riding time point.<br />
Cody Dixon was in a thrilling match at 197 pounds taking a 7-2 lead in the second period after a<br />
3-point near fall only to see it slip away in the final two minutes.
No. 12 Jake Swartz cruised to a 13-5 major decision against No. 20 Mac Stoll at 184 pounds to<br />
put the Broncos up 7-6 in the match. Swartz' win kept him unbeaten this season at 6-0.<br />
J.T. Felix would do his part to regain the Bronco lead after a loss at 197 pounds. Felix took an<br />
early lead and would never look back on his way to a 12-3 major decision.<br />
The Broncos dropped the next three bouts at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, leaving a 13-point deficit<br />
for Jason Chamberlain at 149 pounds. Chamberlain was given a strong battle by the Bison's Joe<br />
Garner, but was able to make a late third-period surge to pick up a 10-2 major decision.<br />

BOISE, Idaho - The No. 24 <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> wrestling will be back in action this weekend when it<br />
travels for dual matches against North Dakota <strong>State</strong>, Friday, and top-ranked Minnesota, Sunday.<br />
The match in Fargo, N.D. will start at 7 p.m. MT while the match in Minneapolis is slated for a 10<br />
a.m. MT start.<br />

Broncos Well Represented at Cowboy Open<br />
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Redshirt junior Jake Swartz let the <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> wrestling team at the Cowboy<br />
Open with a first-place finish at 184 pounds, Saturday. Swartz was one of four Broncos to finish in<br />
the top three of their weight class.<br />
Swartz cruised to four-straight wins to take the crown, starting with a pin and a 10-2 major<br />
decision in his first and second bouts, respectively. In the semifinals, the Auburn, Wash., native<br />
defeated Brett Sanchez in a 5-0 decision to face Nick Bayer in the finals. Swartz defeated Bayer<br />
7-2 to finish the tournament with a 22-4 point differential.<br />
J.T. Felix also made it the finals in the heavyweight division but fell in the finals to Tyrell Fortune<br />
of Grand Canyon University. Felix's road to the finals sandwiched a first-period pin between two<br />
wins by decision.<br />
Travis Himmelman and George Ivanov each notched third-place finishes. After losing his opening<br />
match, Himmelman rallied to five-consecutive wins including three bonus-point bouts in his <strong>Boise</strong><br />
<strong>State</strong> debut. Himmelman had first-period pins in against Jimmy Chase and Sam Meacham, while<br />
winning a 12-4 major decision against Glenn Terrano in the third-place bout at 141 pounds.<br />
Ivanov (157 pounds) escaped his first bout with a 3-1 overtime win against Wyoming's Dakota<br />
Friesth before defeating Chase Cuthbertson, 4-2. A loss in the semifinals would send him to the<br />
consolation bracket where he faced Friesth again and won 5-3. In the consolation final, Ivanov<br />
went head-to-head with teammate Chris Castillo and emerged with a 3-2 decision.<br />
Dixon went 4-2 in the 197-pound bracket, losing to Patrick Gomez in the semifinals before<br />
winning one consolation match and finishing fourth. The junior had two pins in the tournament,<br />
Putting John Elder's shoulders to the mat in the quarterfinals and taking down Bill Gray 42<br />
seconds into the consolation semifinals.<br />
<strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong>'s Chamberlain Successful at All-Star Classic<br />
WASHINGTON D.C. - No. 2 Jason Chamberlain wrestled to a 6-3 decision over No. 9 Nick Lester<br />
of Oklahoma in the 149-pound bout at the NWCA All-Star Classic, Saturday.<br />
Chamberlain was the lone representative of <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> at the event, which pitted some of the top<br />
wrestlers at each weight class against each other.<br />
Chamberlain, an All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier is entering is redshirt senior season<br />
as a Bronco after qualifying for the World University Games last summer.<br />
Bronco <strong>Wrestling</strong> Drops Season Opener
LARAMIE, Wyo - The <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> wrestling team won four matches in a 26-12 defeat during its<br />
season opener at Wyoming, Thursday.<br />
Redshirt junior Jake Swartz started the match off with a 6-1 decision against Shane Woods at<br />
184 pounds. Swartz controlled the match, up 5-0 heading into the third period before allowing<br />
Woods to escape.<br />
After capturing an early lead, the Broncos gave up 17 points in the next three bouts.<br />
Brenton Beard would be the next Broncos to earn points. Beard, a freshman from Liberty lake,<br />
Wash., won in his <strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> debut with an 8-4 decision over Wyoming's Jake Eitzen.<br />
<strong>Boise</strong> <strong>State</strong> would go on to drop two-consecutive bouts before George Ivanov and Taylor West<br />
won gritty battles at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively. Ivanov used a riding time point to earn a<br />
4-3 decision while West shutout Jace Jensen, 3-0.<br />
The Broncos will be back in action, Saturday, staying in Laramie to compete in the Cowboy Open.<br />
