SPRENGER <strong>stirrups</strong> are subjected to the highest<br />
quality standards. Extensive tests are therefore<br />
carried out before a product is introduced to the<br />
market.<br />
Quality checks – like pulling tests – are standardised<br />
with machines in our premises. Sprenger contacted<br />
the Institute for Research and Development<br />
(FES) in Berlin for the first time more than 20 years<br />
ago to obtain the most exact knowledge of the<br />
forces which are effectively at work during riding<br />
for developing new <strong>stirrups</strong>. Substantial research<br />
has been done. Stirrups were prepared with<br />
special strain gauges which transmitted the<br />
tensile momentums via radio. Tests were then<br />
made on a military terrain under competition<br />
conditions.<br />
It turned out that forces can occur in the stirrup<br />
which can equal up to tripled bodyweight. However,<br />
the experience of many years has shown that<br />
even <strong>stirrups</strong> with a breaking strength of 600 kg<br />
can break. Therefore, SPRENGER only offers the<br />
highest quality to guarantee optimal security. Our<br />
safety standard for <strong>stirrups</strong> is a breaking strength<br />
of 800 kg (exception: Aluminium racing <strong>stirrups</strong>).

The new stirrup design ensures an improved leg position.<br />
The changed weight ratio on these <strong>stirrups</strong> results in<br />
perfect <strong>balance</strong> and greater comfort for the rider. The<br />
widened tread is made out of two types of rubber properties<br />
and takes effect in shock absorbing grip.<br />
The internationally approved System 4 technology of<br />
these <strong>stirrups</strong> can support the release of the foot in case<br />

Bow Balance design provides easy “pick up“ upon mounting<br />
as they require very little effort on the rider’s part – a<br />

a story of success.<br />
Over 25 years ago, Sprenger and the inventor Erwin Meroth<br />
developed the first jointed <strong>stirrups</strong>. The stirrup is characterised<br />
by a forward and backward moveable tread which<br />
automatically turns the rider’s heels in the correct low<br />
position and reduces the risk of becoming stuck in the<br />
stirrup in case of an emergency. The movable tread<br />
enables permanent contact and additionally provides<br />
very good foothold and relaxed calves. This might explain<br />
its great popularity among show jumpers and military<br />
riders.<br />
In 1998 Sprenger improved the <strong>stirrups</strong> flexibility by<br />
extending the joint with an additional link. The advanced<br />
stirrup distinguishes by maximum comfort in addition<br />
