The Leo Walker Tattersfield Collection of Chinese Jades Leo Walker Tattersfield was born in Auckland on the 6th of December 1910 and died in his eighties. He owned a wool trading company and travelled all over the world each year to obtain orders for the New Zealand wool production for the following year. In the 1950’s he began to sell wool to China and he started to visit Beijing every year. Three pale celadon jade bi discs, the first carved with raised dots, the second with raised dots and ruyi heads, the thirds with an s-shaped motif, two with wood stands. A group of four jade sword slides, two of celadon and russet colour decorated with raised dots, one of grey and black colour, similarly carved, and a smaller one of white and russet colour, carved with dragons in relief. Over the years he became a regular visitor of the jade dealers in the antiques shops in Beijing, often acquiring new jades for his personal collection as he became more knowledgeable. The result is a jade collection unique in New Zealand. The collection was loaned to the Auckland Museum in 1972 and part of it had been on display until 2002. 11. A pale celadon jade pendant of rectangular form, carved to one side with a goat with a lingzhi spray in its mouth and staring at a bat, the reverse with a chrysanthemum spray, a pierced dragon to the top.
