ATTACHMENT 1A-50 1–110 AFMAN 23-110 Volume 1 Part 4, Chapter 1 ACQUISITION METHOD <strong>CODES</strong> (AMC)/ACQUISITION METHOD SUFFIX <strong>CODES</strong> (AMSC) 1A50.1. Codes. A code reflecting the decision of the primary inventory control activity (PICA) from a planned procurement review. A comb ination of two codes is required. The two sets of codes and their explanations are provided below. (See Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement 6 for detailed information.) 1A50.2. AMCs and AMSCs. AMCs and AMSCs are always used as a comb ination. The AMC is the first character, one-digit numeric ("O" through "5"). The AMSC is th e second character, one-digit alpha ("A" through "Z," except "I" and "X "). AMSCs "E," "F," "J," and "W" are currently reserved for future determination and are not to be used at this time. Table 1A50.1. Acquisition Method Codes. Acquisition Explanation Method Code 0 The part was not assigned acquisition method code (AMC) 1 through 5 when it entered the inventory, nor has it ever completed screening. Use of this code is sometimes necessary but discouraged. 1 Suitable for competitive acquisition for the second or subsequent time. 2 Suitable for competitive acquisition for the first time. 3 Acquire, for the second or subsequent time, directly from the actual manufacturer. 4 Acquire, for the first time, directly from the actual manufacturer. 5 Acquire directly from a sole source contractor which is not the actual manufacturer. A The government's right to use data in its possession is questionable. B Procurement of this item is restricted to source(s) specified on source control drawings. C This item requires engineering source approval by the design control activity in order to maintain quality of the part. An alternate source must qualify in accordance with the design control activity's procedures, as approved by the cognizant government engineering activity. D The data needed to procure this part competitively is not physically available, cannot be obtained economically and it is not possible to draft adequate specifications for a competitive procurement. E (Reserved) F (Reserved) G This item is technically suitable and legally clear for full and open competitive procurement. H The government does not have in its possession sufficient, accurate, or legible data to purchase this item from other sources. I (Not Authorized)
AFMAN 23-110 Volume 1 Part 4, Chapter 1 Acquisition Explanation Method Code J (Reserved) K This part must be produced from class 1 castings and similar type forgings controlled by procedures contained in MIL-STD-2175. L The annual buy value of this part falls below the screening threshold but it has been screened for known sources. M Manufacture of this part requires use of master or coordinated tooling. N This item requires special test and/or inspection facilities to determine and maintain ultraprecision quality for the items function or system integrity. O The part was not assigned an AMSC when it entered the inventory, nor has it ever completed screening. Use of this code in conjunction with AMC "O" is sometimes necessary but discouraged. P The rights to use the data needed to purchase this part from additional sources is not owned by the government and cannot be purchased, developed, reverse engineered or otherwise obtained. Q The government does not have adequate data, lacks the rights to data, or both, needed to purchase this part from additional sources. Full screening actions have been underway for 12 or more months but breakout to competition has not been achieved. However, actions to remove competitive impediments are continuing. R The data or the rights to use the data needed to purchase this item from additional sources are not owned by the government, and it is uneconomical to acquire them by purchase or to reverse engineer the item. This code is used when the government did not initially purchase the data and/or rights. S Acquisition of this item is restricted to government approved sources because the production of the item involves unclassified but militarily sensitive technology. T Acquisition of this part is controlled by qualified products list (QPL) procedures. U This item is uneconomical to compete. V This item has been designated a high reliability part under a formal reliability program. W (Reserved) X (Not authorized) Y The design of this part is unstable. Z This part is a commercial/non-developmental/off-the-shelf item. 1–111
