Welcome to the future 

Innovation and quality products have been the cornerstone for VELUX 

growth since the company was founded by Villum Kann Rasmussen in 

1941. At that time VKR set the company in a direction to invent new 

features that provided excellent value to the trade and consumer. 

Over the years the tradition of innovation has continued in all aspects of 

VELUX. Today, I am pleased to launch “The Next Generation” of skylights 

to the US market. After three years of research, development and testing 

our next generation product will solve all of the concerns Builders, 

Architects and Remodelers have had with skylights. 

Building on our strong heritage, much effort has been placed on improving 

the aesthetics, simplifying installation, weather protection and increasing 

the overall value to our dealers and consumers. The core deck mounted 

product now includes THREE (3) layers of water protection to prevent 

even wind driven hurricane force rain from entering the home. New 

installation techniques and patents incorporated in the “Deck Seal” 

answer builders’ concerns regarding leaks. 

The new marketing material will be as bold as the development of the 

next generation skylight itself. Four color packaging with relevant 

application photos will reinforce the concept of better living at point of 

sale. Increased advertising on the web, to the trade and the consumer in 

2011 will build skylight awareness. Plus, the introduction of an industry 

first: 10-year No Leak Installation Warranty will build confidence in 

skylights with builders and architects. With the combination of our 

marketing and product development, we will revitalize the skylight 

market, build sales for VELUX products and strengthen the value of the 

VELUX brand. 

With an aging population and a consumer who is interested in “Green” 

products the demand for daylight is high. VELUX skylights provide exactly 

what the consumer desires most in their home:

Leadership 

VELUX has a long history of leading the window industry. 

As early as 1945 Villum Kann Rasmussen invented and patented the 

pivot-hinge, and thus the goal of “making a skylight which in every 

respect was just as good as the best vertical window” had moved a 

long way toward fulfillment. 

Today “The Next Generation Skylight” is being developed not because 

we are pushed by our competition, but to continue our long history of 

leading the skylight industry. Many features of this next generation 

skylight are patented today, just like they were in 1945.
