The <strong>River</strong> Corrib was the only site to be positively identified for Milfoil species. Rising<br />

water levels during the course <strong>of</strong> the survey <strong>of</strong> the <strong>River</strong> Corrib provided an insight into the<br />

vegetative reproduction <strong>of</strong> floating river vegetation. Developing rooting structures were evident on<br />

weather beaten Ranunculus and pondweed vegetation similar to that <strong>of</strong> vegetative reproduction<br />

process <strong>of</strong> terrestrial plant species. Watercourses in this square were deeper that other sites surveyed<br />

favouring pondweed species capable <strong>of</strong> growing in deeper water.<br />

Ranunculus species was the dominant floating river vegetation <strong>of</strong> watercourses surveyed in<br />

the <strong>River</strong> Suir square. Flowering rush was observed along the banks <strong>of</strong> the <strong>River</strong> Suir, a plant<br />

species noted to be associated with habitats <strong>of</strong> watercourses <strong>of</strong> plain to montane levels with aquatic<br />

vegetation EU 3260. The shallow channels surveyed in the <strong>River</strong> Suir square were ideal habitats for<br />
