Winners are Grinners – the 2013 Victorian Surf Lifesaving
Titles have been run and comprehensively won by Anglesea and
our competition partners Mentone with 429 points from Half
Moon Bay (326) and Mordialloc on (321). In the words of Team
manager Kevin Rigg “that’s not a win, it’s a b#####
annihilation!” There were great results in all areas including strong
performances in the R&R where Anglesea won the Geoff Waters
Trophy, Board & Ski and Beach areas. Anglesea/Mentone won
23 Gold Medals including Eddo winning the Open Surf Race at
age 40+!!!

The next big event is Easter where
we will have the Senior Club
Championships and Presentation
Night on Saturday 30 th and the
Patrons Lunch on Sunday 31 st . I
encourage you all to come along
and join in the fun and celebrate
the end of the 2012 -2013 Patrol
Season.
This was the second year the Titles were held at Anglesea and the
event was a great success and reflected well on our Club. There
were many comments to the effect it was the best organised State
Titles ever and a lot of the credit goes to our Event Manager, Tom
Cullen and David Simpson who co-ordinated water safety across
the weekend. These two were backed up by a great team who
helped set up on Friday, kept people hydrated and feed on both
days, managed traffic, ran the BBQ tent behind the dunes and then
packed up Sunday night and Monday.
One topic that does need to be addressed from time to time is respect for what we have
here at Anglesea. Anglesea is a big club and as a result it takes a great deal of work by a
limited number of people to raise the funds necessary and do all that is required to operate
effectively across all of our areas. That is why it is so disappointing to see our facilities at times
treated the way they are. Examples include:

• Leaving patrol equipment, the First Aid room and the vehicles covered in sand for the next
patrol to clean.
• Leaving Nipper & G-Boards on the beach for someone else to put away
• Walking through the Ray Marsh Room with bare feet or worse, in a dripping wet wetsuit,
despite very clear signs as to what is required.
• Leaving the patrol Room looking like a bomb has gone off in there.
All that is required is a small amount of consideration to make everyone’s job a little easier.

Club Constitution & By-Laws
For some time now work has been underway on updating the Club’s Constitution and By-
Laws in order to comply with recent legislative changes and to more appropriately reflect
contemporary conditions.
A final draft of the proposed Constitution and By-Laws can be downloaded from the website
(see the link at the Home page). If you require a hard copy please contact either Peter

March Boat Section Report
Since the last newsletter the boat section have had great success both on and off the water.
The 17 th February saw a very successful tin rattle with another scheduled for 24 th March. A
swag of medals has also been won at Stockton for the Navy Australian Surf Boat Series Open,
the Masters State Titles at Lorne as well as the Victorian State Titles at Anglesea. Last weekend
saw the Reserve grade men pick up silver in the Lifesaver relay.
At Stockton medals where won by all competing masters’ teams. The 240+ Men took home
the gold in a closely fought battle with Fairhaven. 180+ women won bronze and 160+ women
brought home the silverware. The open women battled trying conditions to make it through to
the quarter final.
At the Masters States Titles at Lorne many more medals were collected with both the 140+
women and 240+ men winning gold and the 140+ men finishing in the bronze medal position.
The State Titles at Anglesea saw the
women’s open crew make the final in
what was arguably the closest fought
race of the weekend with Jan Juc the
clear winners and Lorne Edge, Lorne
Clippers and Anglesea Weeds all on
the same wave battling for second
and third, unfortunately the results saw
the ladies piped for a medal with the
two Lorne crews granted equal
second, leaving Anglesea medal less,
but now even hungrier for glory.
Three crews will be competing at the
Aussies this year and we wish these
crews the best of luck as they attempt
to top what has already been a most
successful season.

Want to Keep in Touch Over Winter
The perfect way to keep up with happenings around the Club is to join in with the Anglesea
Bears.
First Sunday of each month the Bears go for a brisk (quick) swim and then thaw out over a
BBQ lunch.
Various sections hold training sessions prior to Bears and the day concludes with a rendition
of the Bears Anthem. This is a day for ALL members from Nippers up so come along and
join in as the Bears emerge from hibernation on Sunday 5 th May

IRB Crew Course - Easter
We are running an IRB Crew course over Easter as follows:
• 9.30 to 5.00 on Friday and
• 10.00 to 1.00 on Saturday.
This course is a prerequisite for Silver Camp (old BronzePlus) next summer. Last year we did a
Last Gasp IRB Crew course the day before Bronze Camp. We will NOT be doing that this year
as Silver Camp will start on Saturday 14 December at 9.00am, not on Sunday as it did this
summer.
We will also try to run IRB Crew courses on Queens Birthday weekend and in September this
year. If you want to enrol please e-mail tim.mason@brackenbury.com.au .
We also need some instructors for that course, so if you would like to help please contact Tim.
IRB Drivers Practice and Assessment
We will be having driving sessions over Easter for trainee drivers to practice and get their
award.
• Good Friday from 10.00 am
• Saturday from 9.00 am
• Assessment Sat from 11.00 am
Almost two thirds of the candidates who went through BronzePlus have now successfully
passed and it would be great for the other 15 to get it done.
Bronze Plus candidates in the IRB Stream will not qualify for the Certificate III (Aquatic Rescue)
until they have passed this course; furthermore the club gets no funding for the course if they
do not get Cert III which would be very disappointing and costly.
We urge all trainee drivers to get this course finished as soon as possible. You do not need to
be 17 to finish the course.
IRB Racing Team Practice - Easter Saturday 1.00pm- 5.00pm
Anglesea will be fielding an IRB Racing Team in this year’s winter competition which starts in
May.
We have allocated a budget for this team and have committed significant funds for new
motors and equipment. We regard this as an important way to improve the skills of the drivers
and crew of our primary rescue vehicle.
We will also be looking to get more GoPro footage and do a video for the team and would
like volunteers for leadership and organising roles in the team in a Team Meeting at 5.00pm in
the Lower Club.

Anglesea SLSC has two strategic partnerships in place, firstly with the Bendigo Community
Bank at Anglesea and the second with Great Ocean Properties. Both partnerships provide
the club with the ability to earn income through its members using the partners services.
As a community bank, the Bendigo Community Bank at Anglesea must reinvest part of its
profit back into the local community and this enables Anglesea SLSC to receive an income
stream based on savings, loans or mortgages that are “tagged” to the club. If you are an
existing Bendigo Bank customer, you can have your existing bank accounts “linked” back to
Anglesea SLSC which will then generate an income stream. This action will NOT impact or
disadvantage benefits to your account including any interest rates or costs that you currently
incur as the income stream the club
receives is paid from the profits of
the Anglesea Community Bank.

or are wanting to take out a mortgage or other loan these can also generate an income by
being linked to Anglesea SLSC. If you are interested in assisting in providing an easy income
stream to the Club through moving or establishing business or personal banking, please give

If you or your family and friends or even neighbors are looking
at selling your house or land at Anglesea or along the Surf
Coast, Anglesea SLSC has a strategic partnership with Great
Ocean Properties in which the Club will receive a commission
payment based on the sale price of the property. This
partnership provides a way of generating an income for the
club but as a vendor you will still enjoy competitive commission rates, so give Max or Ian a
call on (03) 5263 1100 to discuss the options.
