On behalf of the organisation committee of the seventeenth 

world congress for orthopaedic shoe technicians, and on behalf 

of your Dutch colleagues, I warmly welcome you to The Hague. 

This city is home to Eurojust and Europol, as well as all eminent 

International Tribunals; here you will find both modern architecture 

and typical Dutch canals, here you can look out over the sea. 

The Hague offers a perfect setting for a festive conference. 

The conference programme is both varied and intriguing. It will 

bring you up to date on the latest developments in your discipline 

in a manner that will grab the attention of both technicians and 

managers. The trade floor offers a comprehensive view of what is 

available for and from our industry. Complementary items include 

a festive evening in Madurodam – a miniature city in which the 

most important buildings of the Netherlands are replicated at scale 

1:25 – and a company visit on Saturday. 

The programme and the ambiance will make IVO 2009 conference 

a unique event. After all, when the global family of orthopaedic

Welcome to IVO 2009! 

Dear Guest, 

On behalf of the organisation committee, it is my pleasure 

to welcome you to the 17 th world conference on orthopaedic 

shoe technology IVO 2009. We have worked very hard during 

the past three years to ensure that this event will become an 

absolute success. We thank you and all sponsors, speakers, 

participants and employees in contributing towards this success. 

IVO 2009 offers a highly varied conference programme with 

numerous prominent keynote speakers. Additionally, there are 

instructive workshops and a comprehensive trade fair where 

you can familiarise yourself with the latest innovations and 

technology. Outside the formal programme, there are informal 

opportunities to meet your colleagues and other professionals 

during the festive evenings in Madurodam and Vlijmen. 

As organisation committee, we are very proud of the result 

and wish you an instructive and successful conference!

Knowledge exchange during IVO 2009 

Taking a peek beyond one’s own boundaries, making the acquaintance 

of people and businesses from other countries, surprising and 

challenging one another. The programme committee of IVO 2009 has 

made a selection of interesting speeches to offer you an attractive 

and diverse programme. Subjects range from the state of the art in 

industry, research and development, prescription of aids, developments 

in education, to lifestyle and sports. Special attention will be 

giving to orthopaedic issues related to diabetes and children. Prominent 

and at times controversial keynote speakers will open and close 

the day programmes. Finally, space has been reserved on the trade 

fl oor for a number of illustrative poster presentations. Also, there are 

a number of workshops in which you are more than welcome to participate. 

The programme offers an ideal opportunity for orthopaedic 

shoe technicians, (rehabilitation) physicians, orthopaedists, podotherapists, 

pedicurists, entrepreneurs, educators and scientists from 

all over the world to meet one another in an informal setting. 

However, it is also the venue at which to acquaint employees and 

students with the latest developments in the fi eld of orthopaedic 

shoe technology and related trades. Partnership in Footcare is the 

central theme of this two-day conference. 

All plenary sessions will be held in the largest hall. The other halls are 

scheduled to host lectures and workshops, at which professional 

speakers will share their knowledge of developments in their own 

particular discipline with you. For your convenience, all speeches in 

the World Forum Theatre (plenary hall) will be simultaneously 

interpreted into Dutch, French, German and Japanese.

Dan Blocka, B.Sc., 

C.O. (c), F.C.B.C. 

Chairman of the 

International Society 

for Prosthetics & 

Orthotics (ISPO) 

Dan Blocka was appointed Chairman of the 

ISPO during its World Congress 2007. Mr Blocka 

is also coordinator of the Prosthetic and Orthotic 

programmes at George Brown College, and has 

over twenty years of experience as a lecturer 

and GP. In his capacity as Chairman of the 

ISPO, Blocka is involved in over twenty fi ve 

ISPO studies into training programmes being 

run in the fi eld of prosthetics and orthotics 

worldwide. In addition, he is actively involved 

in the further development of educational 

and professional standards and protocols for 

the ISPO. 

Adjiedj Bakas 

Trendwatcher 

of The Year 2009 

‘People who can’t have a laugh, shouldn’t 

work in a shop,’ according to trend watcher 

Adjiedj Bakas. He combines knowledge and 

entertainment to provide ‘infotainment’. The 

Volkskrant newspaper referred to him as 

‘prominent’; NRC Handelsblad ‘inspiring’; 

Elsevier ‘evocative’; CNN ‘optimistic’; TV2 

News Denmark ‘provocative’; and according 

to the BBC, ‘he makes you feel happy’. 

Mr Bakas (1963) was born in South America 

to Indian parents, and has been living and 

working in the Netherlands since 1983. 

He is the author of various infl uential works, 

including Megatrends Europe (2006) and 

Living Without Oil (2007). His latest book, 

Beyond the Crisis, was published in 2009. 

Erica Terpstra 

Chair of the 

NOC*NSF 

Erica Terpstra entered the political circuit 

through the world of sport. She was formerly 

the Netherlands State Secretary for is Health, 

Welfare & Sport, responsible for youth & 

elderly policy, policy relating to the handicapped, 

insurance under the Exceptional 

Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ) and sport. In 

1996, she introduced the client-linked 

budget, which was a breakthrough in the 

Netherlands’ health care funding system. Ms 

Terpstra is currently Chair of the NOC*NSF. 

The Netherlands Olympic Committee * 

Netherlands Sports Federation (NOC*NSF) 

is the body that represents the broad range 

of interests of organised sport in the 

Netherlands. 

Mario Lafortune 

Director of the Nike 

Sport Research 

Laboratory 

Mario Lafortune has been the Director of the 

Nike Sport Research Laboratory since the 

mid-nineteen nineties. He also holds the post 

of Professor of Sport at the University of 

Porto in Portugal. Having completed various 

studies, including Biomechanics, Mr Lafortune 

has pursued a career as a researcher and 

subsequently professor at various universities 

in France, Canada, USA, Australia and 

Germany. He is a popular choice as a keynote 

speaker at conferences and seminars, 

due to his sound understanding of both biomechanics 

and humane biology. Mr Lafortune 

has also put his name to an impressive list 

of scientifi c publications. He established 

the Nike Shoes Award, and is a member 

of the editing teams of various scientifi c 

publications, such as the Journal of Sports 

Engineering and Technology and Footwear 

Science. 

Networking and Relaxing English 

The IVO 2009 Conference and the IVO 2009 Exhibition both offer ideal opportunities to 

catch up with colleagues, medical practitioners or other people operating in the foot care/ 

footwear sector, while also making new business and informal contacts. You will have 

ample opportunity for networking during the various coffee/tea/lunch breaks on the 

exhibition fl oor, the party evening in Madurodam and at the festive opening Jos America’s 

new business premises. Relax while enjoying a snack and a drink, and make (closer) 

acquaintance with other professionals who work in the foot care & footwear sector. 

Party evening in Madurodam 

An informal party, with entertainment and culinary delights, is to be held on Friday evening 

13 November 2009 in Madurodam, the Netherlands’ smallest city. The dresscode is casual. 

Register and make sure you’re there! 

Opening celebrations at Jos America 

The festive opening of Jos America’s new premises is to be held on the afternoon of 

Saturday 14 November. You are also welcome to attend. The dresscode is business- 

casual. Coaches are to be laid on to ferry visitors back and forth between The Hague and 

Vlijmen. This also promises to be a great party. Don’t miss it!

Welcome to The Hague 

and the World Forum 

The Hague increasingly presents itself as the City of Peace and Justice, given that it is hosts 

the headquarters of such prestigious bodies as the UN International Court of Justice and 

Europol. However, The Hague has so much more to offer. It is also the seat of government 

of the Netherlands. This unique city nestling behind the sand dunes, offers stunning 

beaches at Scheveningen and Kijkduin, an historic city centre, almost limitless shopping 

facilities, countless hotels and (trendy) restaurants and a vast range of tourist attractions. 

The Hague is centrally located, both within 

the Netherlands and Europe, and offers easy 

accessibility by private and public transport. 

Cities such as Amsterdam (Schiphol Airport) 

and Rotterdam are within easy reach, while 

the series of windmills at Kinderdijk and the 

historic cities of Delft and Leiden are literally 

just around the corner.

The World Forum is located in The Hague’s international zone. This combination of a 

multifunctional auditorium/theatre and diverse break-out areas renders the World Forum 

the ideal venue for the IVO 2009 Conference and Exhibition. 

Parking facilities 

The World Forum has ample on-site parking 

capacity. Exit passes are available from the 

ticket machines in the central entrance lobby 

and at the entrance to the car park. 

Public transport 

The World Forum is just a short distance from 

various airports, stations and motorways. 

Participants will nevertheless benefit greatly 

from the convenience a public transport pass 

offers. The pass is valid for use on bus and 

tram services in The Hague, Scheveningen 

and Rijswijk. The charge applicable for a 

3-day public transport pass is approx. €13.

visitor to IVO 2009, we have drawn up a brief 

tour of the programme for you. The tour was 

compiled on the basis of topics which may 

be of interest to you. Grasp this opportunity 

to plan your visit to the IVO Global 

Conference in advance, to make absolutely 

sure you do not miss anything important! 

Topic 1: 

State of Industry 

As the title suggests, this topic focuses on 

the current state of affairs in our trade. This 

includes technology, innovations and the 

manner in which the sector is organised. 

This session is designed to directly inform 

you. State of Industry is scheduled to be held 

in three blocks: 

Block 1.1, from 11.00 to 12.30 hrs on 13/11/09, 

in Asia, has the title ‘Facts, Figures and the 

future’. It presents an up-to-date impression 

of the way that orthopaedic shoe technology 

is organised in various parts of the world, 

while several leading captains of industry 

present their visions of the future. 

Block 1.2, from 10.45 to 12.30 hrs on 14/11/09, in 

Oceania, has the title ‘Technology’. During this 

block, various manufacturers and researchers 

will present their latest innovations in the use 

of ICT applications in the field of orthopaedic 

shoe technology. 


in Europe, has the title ‘Manufacturers’. Various 

suppliers are to present the latest developments 

in their range of products and services here. 

Topic 2: 

Prescription 

This topic focuses on prescription systems. 

How does one devise a suitable solution to 

a medical problem in a structured manner? 

Prescription will be give in two blocks: 

Block 2.1, from 11.00 to 12.30 hrs on

diagnosis to functional demands’. The 


pro cess of prescription is examined from 

various perspectives during this session. 


13/11/2009, in the World Forum Theatre, has 

the title ‘Management systemsfor foot care 

specialists’. During this session, various 

speakers are to discuss the underlying 

techniques for the structured resolution of 

foot problems. This session is an absolute 

must for professionals keen to gain greater 

insight into care protocols! 

Topic 3: 

Education 

These blocks focus on educational developments. 

This information is to be presented 

in two blocks: 


in Asia, has the title ‘Developments in 

Education’. Here, various policy-makers in 

the educational sector will speak about the 

latest developments in the field of vocational 

training for the foot care sector.

Topic 4: 

Lifestyle and Sports 


in Europe, has the title ‘Lifestyle and sports’. 

This session, to be chaired by our keynote 

speaker representing Nike, will identify the 

connections between sport and foot problems 

in the form of several presentations. 

Topic 5: 

Research and development 

This is the main topic of the IVO Global 

Conference, which comprises 5 blocks 

spread over 2 days! 

Block 5.1, from 11.00 to 12.30 hrs on 13/11/09 

in the World Forum Theatre, has the title 

‘Innovation and technology’. Various researchers 

are to present the findings of

their studies in the field of innovation and 

technology here. 


in Oceania, has the title ‘Diabetes’. This chronic 

illness affects the lives of many people in a 

quite substantial manner. Researchers are 

to present the latest findings of their efforts 

to minimise the effects of the illness. 


in Europe, has the title ‘Biomechanics’. 

Various speakers will hold presentations on 

the biomechanical aspects of shoe solutions. 

This is a must for any professional regularly 

involved in providing this type of solution, 

as it provides further insight into the theory 

behind their work. 


in Asia, has the title ‘Gait bio mechanics’. 

Various speakers will present the results of 

their studies of aspects such as gait analysis 

and pressure measurement. 


in Oceania, has the title ‘Clinical Care’. During 

this session, various professionals will 

present their visions of the treatment of a 

vast range of foot problems. A session that 

is truly by professionals, for professionals!

Children and shoes 


14/11/09, in Asia, has the title ‘Children and 

shoes’. Professionals in the childcare sector 

describe the latest state of affairs in the field 

of resolving children’s foot problems. 

Topic 7: 

Facts en France and Japan 


14/11/2009, in the World Forum Theatre, has 

the title ‘Facts and France and Japan’. 

Speakers from all over the world, but primarily 

Japan and France, are to discuss their latest 

findings in the World Forum Theatre. Special

Nederlandse collega’s heet ik u van harte welkom in Den Haag.

feestavonden in Madurodam en in Vlijmen.

Kennis uitwisselen tijdens IVO 2009 

Over de grenzen kijken, kennismaken met mensen en bedrijven uit 

andere landen, elkaar verrassen en elkaar uitdagen. De programmacommissie 

van IVO 2009 heeft door de vele bijdragen aan 

voordrachten voor u een aantrekkelijk en afwisselend programma 

samen kunnen stellen. Een programma waarin de state of the art 

op het vlak van industrie, research en development, voorschrijven 

van hulpmiddelen, ontwikkelingen op vlak van onderwijs, tot en 

met lifestyle en sport aan bod komen. Speciale aandacht wordt 

gegeven aan schoenvraagstukken rondom diabetes en kinderen. 

Aansprekende en soms prikkelende Keynote voordrachten openen 

en sluiten de dagprogramma’s. Op de beursvloer is ten slotte 

ruimte gereserveerd voor een aantal posterpresentaties waarbij u 

direct van de betrokkenen kunt vernemen wat de stand van zaken 

is. Ook zijn er een aantal workshops waarbij uw deelname van 

harte op prijs wordt gesteld. 

Het programma is een uitgelezen kans voor u als orthopedisch 

schoentechnicus, (revalidatie) artsen, orthopeden, podotherapeuten, 

pedicures, ondernemers, opleiders en wetenschappers uit de 

wereld, om elkaar op een informele manier te ontmoeten. En, om 

medewerkers en studenten kennis te laten maken met de nieuwste 

ontwikkelingen op het gebied van orthopedisch schoentechniek 

en aanverwante beroepen. Partnership in Footcare is de 

rode draad van dit twee dagen durende congres. 

In de grootste zaal zullen alle plenaire sessies plaatsvinden. In de 

andere zalen zijn lezingen en workshops gepland waar professionele 

sprekers hun kennis over de ontwikkelingen binnen hun 

specifi eke vak met u zullen delen. Alle voordrachten in het World 

Forum Theatre (plenaire zaal) worden bovendien simultaan 

vertaald naar het Engels, Duits, Frans en Japans. Bovendien zullen 

alle voordrachten naar het Nederlands vertaald worden zodat ook 

diegenen die een vreemde taal niet geheel machtig zijn, alles goed 

kunnen volgen. 

Namens de programmacommissie wens ik u allen een interessant, 

leerzaam, uitdagend en vooral gezellig congres toe.

& Orthotics (ISPO) 

Dan Blocka is tijdens het ISPO 2007 Wereld 

Congres gekozen tot voorzitter van het 

ISPO. Blocka is ook coördinator van het 

onderwijsprogramma van het George Brown 

College Prothetic and Orthotic en heeft meer 

dan 20 jaar ervaring als docent en huisarts. 

In zijn rol bij ISPO is Blocka betrokken bij 

meer dan vijfentwintig ISPO onderzoeken 

naar opleidingsprogramma’s die wereldwijd 

worden uitgevoerd op het gebied van 

prothesen en orthesen. 

Daarnaast is hij actief betrokken bij de verdere 

ontwikkeling van educatieve en professionele 

standaarden en protocollen voor ISPO. 

Adjiedj Bakas 

Trendwatcher 


“Wie niet kan lachen, moet niet in een winkeltje 

werken”, aldus trendwatcher Adjiedj 

Bakas. Hij koppelt kennis aan entertainment 

en levert daarmee “infotainment”. De 

Volkskrant noemt hem “prominent”, NRC 

Handelsblad “inspirerend”, Elsevier “prikkelend”, 

CNN “optimistisch”, TV2 Journaal 

Denemarken “provocerend” en volgens de 

BBC “word je blij van hem”. Bakas (1963) is 

geboren in Zuid-Amerika uit Indiase ouders 

en woont en werkt vanaf 1983 in Nederland. 

Hij schreef gezaghebbende boeken, zoals 

Megatrends Europe (2006) en Leven Zonder 

Olie (2007). In 2009 is het boek Beyond the 

Crisis verschenen. 


Voorzitter NOC*NSF 

Via de sport is Erica Terpstra in de politiek 

gekomen. Ze was als Staatssecretaris van 

Volks gezondheid, Welzijn en Sport, belast 

met jeugd- en ouderenbeleid, beleid voor 

mensen met een handicap, de AWBZ-verzekering 

en sport. In 1996 introduceerde zij het 

Persoonsgebonden budget, een doorbraak in 

het ziektekostenstelsel in Nederland. Op dit 

moment is Terpstra Voorzitter NOC*NSF. Het 

Nederlands Olympisch Comité* Nederlandse 

Sport Federatie (NOC*NSF) is de bundeling 

van de georganiseerde sport in Nederland. 


Directeur Nike Sport 

Onderzoeks 

Laboratorium 

Mario Lafortune is sinds medio jaren negentig 

directeur van het Nike Sport Onderzoeks 

Labora torium. Daarnaast is hij hoogleraar 

aan de faculteit sport van de Universiteit van 

Porto in Portugal. Lafortune studeerde o.a. 

Biomechanica en was daarna als onderzoeker 

en later als hoogleraar werkzaam aan 

diverse universiteiten in Frankrijk, Canada, 

USA, Australië en Duitsland. Vanwege zijn 

goede kennis van de biomechanica en de 

humane biologie is hij een veelgevraagd 

Key Note Speaker op congressen. Lafortune 

heeft een groot aantal wetenschappelijke 

publicaties op zijn naam staan. Hij is oprichter 

van de Nike Schoenen Award en redactielid 

van wetenschappelijke tijdschriften zoals de 

Journal of Sports Engineering and Technology 

en Footwear Science. 

Netwerken en Ontspannen 

Het IVO 2009 Congres en de IVO 2009 Beurs zijn dé gelegenheden om de banden met 

collega’s, medici of andere personen in de voeten- en schoenenbranche aan te halen en om 

nieuwe zakelijke en informele contacten aan te gaan. U kunt netwerken tijdens de diverse 

koffi e/thee/lunch pauzes op de beursvloer, tijdens de feestavond in Madurodam en tijdens 

de feestelijke opening van het nieuwe bedrijfspand van Jos America. Ontspan onder het 

genot van een hapje en een drankje en maak (nader) kennis met vele andere professionals 

die werkzaam zijn in de voeten- en schoenenbranche. 

Feestavond bij Jos America 

Op zaterdag 14 november, in de namiddag, wordt het nieuwe pand van Jos America 

feestelijk geopend. U kunt hierbij ook aanwezig zijn. De dresscode is zakelijk casual. 

Met bussen worden de bezoekers van Den Haag naar Vlijmen vervoerd en weer terug. 

Ook dit belooft een zeer gezellig feest te worden. Mis het niet en meldt u zich aan! 

Feestavond in Madurodam 

Op vrijdagavond 13 november 2009 wordt in Madurodam, de kleinste stad van Nederland, 

een informele feestavond vol entertainment en culinaire momenten georganiseerd. 

De dresscode is casual . Zorg dat u hier bij bent en meldt u zich aan!

en het World Forum 

Den Haag profileert zich met o.a. de hoofdzetels van het Internationale Gerechtshof van 

de VN en Europol steeds sterker als de stad van de Vrede en het Recht. Maar Den Haag 

is meer. Het is ook het bestuurlijk centrum van Nederland. De unieke stad achter de 

duinen, met de mooie stranden in Scheveningen en Kijkduin, de historische binnenstad, 

de ongekende shoppingmogelijkheden, de talloze hotels en (trendy) restaurants en een 

grote reeks attracties. 

Den Haag is centraal gelegen en goed bereikbaar 

met auto en openbaar vervoer. Steden als 

Amsterdam (Schiphol) en Rotterdam liggen 

zeer nabij. Ook de molens van Kinderdijk en 

de historische steden Delft en Leiden liggen 

om de hoek. 




Het World Forum is gevestigd in de internationale zone van Den Haag. De combinatie 

van een multifunctioneel auditorium/theater en diverse break out ruimtes maakt het 

World Forum de perfecte locatie voor het IVO 2009 Congres en Beurs. 

Parkeren 

Het World Forum beschikt over eigen ruime 

parkeercapaciteit. Uitrijkaarten zijn verkrijgbaar 

via de automaten in de centrale entree 

en bij de ingang van de parkeergarage. 

Openbaar vervoer 

Het World Forum ligt op korte afstand van 

luchthavens, stations en snelwegen. Deelnemers 

hebben veel gemak van een openbaar 

vervoer kaart. De kaart kunt u gedurende 

het congres gebruiken in de bus en tram 

in Den Haag, Scheveningen en Rijswijk. De

Thema 1: 


Dit thema staat in het teken van de laatste 

stand van zaken in ons vak. Of het nu gaat 

om technologie, innovaties of de wijze waarop 

ons vak georganiseerd is. U bent in deze 

sessie direct geinformeerd. State of Industry 

wordt in 3 blokken geprogrammeerd: 

Blok 1.1 op 13-11-2009 in Asia van 11.00- 

12.30 heeft als titel "Facts, Figures and the future". 

Hier wordt een actueel beeld geschetst 

van de wijze waar op orthopedische schoentechniek 

in de verschillende delen van de 

wereld is georganiseerd en geven een aantal 

vooraanstaande captains of industry hun 

visie op de toekomst. 

Blok 1.2 op 14-11-2009 in Oceania van 11.45 

tot 12.30 heeft als titel "Technology". In dit 

blok presenteren diverse fabrikanten en 

onderzoekers hun laatste innovaties op het 

gebied van het toepassen van ICT in de 

orthopedische schoentechniek. 

Blok 1.3 op 14-11-2009 in Europe van 13.30 tot 

15.15 heeft de Titel "Manufacturers". Hier worden 

de laatste product en dienst ontwikkelingen 

door diverse leveranciers gepresenteerd. 

Thema 2: 

Prescription 

Dit thema gaat over voorschrijf systemen. 

Hoe vertaal je een medisch probleem naar 

een oplossing op een gestructureerde wijze? 

Prescription wordt in 2 blokken gegeven: 

Blok 2.1 op 13-11-2009 in Europe van 11.00 

tot 12.30 heeft als titel "from diagnosis to 

functional demands". Tijdens deze sessie 

wordt het gestructureerd voorschrijven vanuit 

verschillende invalshoeken behandeld. 

Blok 2.2 op 13-11-2009 in World Forum 

Theater van 13.30 tot 15.15 draagt de titel 

"Managements systems for footcare specialists". 

Hier wordt door diverse sprekers ingegaan 

op de technieken achter het gestructureerd 

oplossen van voetproblemen. Voor 

professionals die zich willen verdiepen in 

zorg protocollen is dit een absolute aanrader! 

Thema 3: 

Education 

In deze blokken komen onderwijs ontwikkelingen 

aan bod. U krijgt deze informatie in 

twee blokken aangeboden: 

Blok 3.1 op 13-11-2009 in Asia van 13.30 

tot 15.15 draagt de titel "Developments in 

Education". Hier spreken diverse beleidsmakers 

op het gebied van opleiden over de 

laatste ontwikkelingen op het gebied van 

het op-leiden van vakmensen. 

Blok 3.2 op 14-11-2009 in het World Forum 

Theater van 10.45 tot 12.30 heeft als titel 

"Education for the profession". Hier worden 

praktische workshops georganiseerd voor 

en door professionals. 

Thema 4: 



tot 15.15 is getiteld "Lifestyle and sports". 

Deze sessie wordt voorgezeten door onze 

keynote speaker van Nike en legt verbanden 

tussen sport en voetproblematiek middels 

diverse presentaties. 

Thema 5: 


Dit is het grootste thema van het IVO wereld 

congres en bestrijkt maar liefst 5 blokken 

over 2 dagen! 

Blok 5.1 op 13-11-2009 in het World Forum 

Theater van 11.00 tot 12.30 uur heeft als 

titel "innovation and technology". Diverse 

onderzoekers presenteren hier hun onderzoeksresultaten 

op het gebied van innovatie 

en technology. 

Blok 5.2 op 13-11-2009 in Oceania van 13.30 tot 

15.15 draagt de titel "Diabetes". Deze chronische 

ziekte grijpt op een indruk wekkende manier in 

op het leven van vele mensen. Onderzoekers 

presenteren hier hun laatste resultaten om 

de gevolgen van deze ziekte te beperken. 


tot 12.30 is getiteld "Biomechanics". Diverse 

sprekers zullen de biomechanische aspecten 

van schoenoplossingen presenteren. 

Een must voor de professional die veel met 

dit type oplossingen werkt om een beter 

inzicht te krijgen in de theoretische achtergronden 

van hun werk. 

Blok 5.4 op 14-11-2009 in Asia van 13.30 tot 

15.15 heeft als titel "Gait biomechanics". 

Hier zullen diverse sprekers hun onderzoeksresultaten 

presenteren op het gebied van onder 

andere gangbeeld analyse en drukmeting. 

Blok 5.5 op 14-11-209 in Oceania van 13.30 tot 

15.15 draagt de titel "Clinical Care". Diverse 

professionals geven hier hun visie op de 

behandeling van uiteenlopende voetproblematiek. 

Een echte profs voor profs sessie!

Blok 6.1 op 14-11-2009 in Asia van 10.45 tot 

12.30 en draagt de titel "Children and shoes". 

Professionals in de jeugdzorg geven de 

laatste stand van zaken weer op het gebied van 

het oplossen van voetproblemen bij kinderen.

Theater van 13.30 tot 15.15 getiteld "Facts en 

France and Japan". Diverse sprekers uit de hele

17. Weltkongress für Orthopädieschuhtechnik, IVO 2009, herzlich 

willkommen. In den letzten drei Jahren haben wir hart daran 

gearbeitet, dass diese Veranstaltung für Sie zu einem absoluten Erfolg 

wird. Wir sind Ihnen und allen Sponsoren, Rednern, Teilnehmern 

und Mitarbeitern für ihre Beiträge zu diesem Erfolg sehr dankbar. 

IVO 2009 ist gleichbedeutend mit einem sehr vielseitigen Kongress- 

programm mit vielen beeindruckenden Schlüsselrednern. Darüber

Wissen austauschen während des IVOKongresses 2009 

Über die Grenzen blicken, Fachleute und Unternehmen aus 

anderen Ländern kennen lernen, sich gegenseitig überraschen 

und vor Herausforderungen stellen. Das Programmkomitee des 

IVO-Kongresses 2009 konnte dank der vielen eingereichten 

Vorträge ein attraktives und abwechslungsreiches Programm 

zusammenstellen. Ein Programm, das sich dem neuesten 

Entwicklungsstand in den Bereichen Industrie, Forschung und 

Entwicklung, Verschreiben von Hilfsmitteln, Ausbildung sowie 

Themen wie Lifestyle und Sport widmet. Besonderes Augenmerk 

gilt den Schuhproblemen von Diabetikern und Kindern. Interessante 

und manchmal provozierende Grundsatzreden werden das 

jeweilige Tagesprogramm eröffnen und beschließen. Außerdem 

bietet die Fachausstellung Platz für einige Posterpräsentationen.

Und es bietet sich dafür an, Mitarbeiter und Studenten mit den 

neuesten Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet der Orthopädie- 

Schuhtechnik und in verwandten Berufen bekannt zu machen. 

„Partnership in Footcare“ ist der Leitfaden dieses zweitägigen 

Kongresses. 

Im größten Saal fi nden alle Plenarveranstaltungen statt. In den 

anderen Sälen sind Vorträge und Workshops geplant. Dort werden 

professionelle Referenten ihr Know-how zu den Entwicklungen 

auf ihrem jeweiligen Spezialgebiet mit Ihnen teilen. Alle Vorträge 

im World Forum Theatre (Plenarsaal) werden simultan ins 

Englische, Deutsche, Französische, Japanische und Niederländische 

gedolmetscht. So kann auch jeder, der keine Fremdsprache 

beherrscht, das Programm optimal verfolgen.

Dan Blocka wurde während des ISPO- 

Weltkongresses 2007 zum Vorsitzenden der 

ISPO gewählt. Dan Blocka ist außerdem als 

Koordinator für das Ausbildungsprogramm 

des George Brown College Prothetic and 

Orthotic tätig und verfügt über mehr als 

20 Jahre Erfahrung als Dozent und Hausarzt. 

Im Rahmen seiner Funktion bei der ISPO ist 

er an über 25 ISPO-Studien zu Ausbildungsprogrammen, 

die weltweit auf dem Gebiet 

von Prothesen und Orthesen durchgeführt 

werden, beteiligt. Des Weiteren engagi ert 

er sich aktiv für die Weiterentwicklung 

von Pädagogik- und Fachstandards und 

-protokollen für ISPO. 

Adjiedj Bakas 

Trendwatcher 


„Wer nicht lachen kann, sollte nicht in einem 

Laden arbeiten“, so Trendwatcher Adjiedj 

Bakas. Er verbindet Know-how mit Entertainment 

und das ergibt „Infotainment“. Die 

niederländische Presse nennt ihn „prominent“ 

(Volkskrant), „inspirierend“ (NRC Handelsblad) 

und „anregend“ (Elsevier). CNN bezeichnet 

ihn als „optimistisch“, das TV2-Journal in 

Dänemark als „provokativ“ und laut BBC 

„stimmt er uns fröhlich“. Bakas wurde 1963 

als Sohn indischer Eltern in Südamerika geboren 

und arbeitet seit 1983 in den Niederlanden. 

Er verfasste einfl ussreiche Bücher, 

wie Megatrends Europe (2006) und Leven 

Zonder Olie (Leben ohne Öl)(2007). 2009 

erschien sein Buch Beyond the Crisis.

Über den Sport kam Erica Terpstra in die 

Politik. Ihr Aufgabengebiet als Staatssekretärin 

für Volksgesundheit, Wohlfahrt und Sport 

umfasste Jugend-, Senioren- und Behindertenpolitik, 

die Versicherung für Besondere 

Krankheitskosten (AWBZ) und Sport. 1996 

führte sie das personengebundene Budget 

ein, ein Durchbruch im niederländischen 

Krankenversicherungssystem. Im Moment 

ist Erica Terpstra Vorsitzende des Nationalen 

Olympischen Komitees und Sportdachverbandes 

der Niederlande (NOC*NSF), in 

dem der niederländische organisierte Sport 

zusammengeführt wurde.

Forschungslabors 

Mario Lafortune leitet seit Mitte der 90er 

Jahre das Nike Sport Forschungslabor. 

Darüber hinaus ist er Dozent an der Sportfakultät 

der Universität von Porto in Portugal. 

Mario Lafortune studierte u. a. Biomechanik 

und war anschließend als Forscher und 

später als Dozent an mehreren Universitäten 

in Frankreich, Kanada, den USA, Australien 

und Deutschland tätig. Aufgrund seiner 

umfangreichen Kenntnisse der Biomechanik 

und Humanbiologie ist er ein gefragter 

Referent auf Kongressen. Er hat zahlreiche 

wissenschaftliche Arbeiten publiziert, ist 

Gründer des Nike Schoenen Award und 

Redaktionsmitglied wissenschaftlicher Fachzeitschriften, 

wie Journal of Sports Engineering 

and Technology und Footwear 

Science. 

Kontakte knüpfen und Entspannung 

Der IVO-Kongress 2009 und die IVO-Fachausstellung 2009 sind ein hervorragender Anlass, die 

Beziehungen zu Kollegen, Ärzten oder anderen Vertretern der Orthopädie- und Schuhtechnikbranche 

zu festigen und neue geschäftliche und informelle Kontakte zu knüpfen. Dazu haben 

Sie während der Kaffee- bzw. Tee- und Mittagspausen im Ausstellungsbereich, beim Festabend 

in Madurodam sowie während der festlichen Einweihung des neuen Betriebsgebäudes von

Festabend in Madurodam 

Am Freitagabend, den 13. November 2009 wird in Madurodam, der kleinsten Stadt der 

Niederlande, ein zwangloser Festabend voller Entertainment und kulinarischer Genüsse 

organisiert. Das sollten Sie sich nicht entgehen lassen! 

Festabend bei Jos America 

Am Samstag, den 14. November 2009 wird am Nachmittag das neue Betriebsgebäude 

von Jos America festlich eingeweiht. Sie können an dieser Feier ebenfalls teilnehmen. 

Die Kleiderordnung ist Business Casual. Die Besucher werden mit Bussen von Den Haag 

nach Vlijmen und wieder zurück gefahren. Auch das verspricht, ein äußerst gemütliches 

Fest zu werden. Dabei sollten Sie nicht fehlen!

Den Haag profiliert sich u.a. mit dem Hauptsitz des Internationalen Gerichtshofs der 

Vereinten Nationen und Europol immer stärker als Stadt des Friedens und des Rechts. 

Aber Den Haag ist mehr. Hier befindet sich das Verwaltungszentrum der Niederlande. Diese 

einzigartige Stadt hinter den Dünen mit den schönen Stränden in Scheveningen und Kijkduin 

besticht außerdem durch ihre historische Innenstadt, beispiellose Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, 

zahllose Hotels und (trendy) Restaurants sowie eine Vielzahl anderer Sehenswürdigkeiten.

Block 1.3 am 14.11.2009 von 13.30 bis 15.15 Uhr 

im Saal Europe trägt den Titel „Manufacturers“.

Unter diesem Thema wird auf Verschreibungssysteme 

eingegangen. Wie kann man ein medizinisches

Uhr im Saal Europe widmet sich dem Thema 

„Biomechanics“. Verschiedene Referenten 

werden hier die biomechanischen Aspekte 

von Schuhlösungen präsentieren. Ein Muss

Au nom du comité organisateur du dixseptième congrès mondial 

pour techniciens en chaussures orthopédiques et au nom de vos 

collègues néerlandais, je vous souhaite la bienvenue à La Haye. 

Ville où siègent Eurojust, Europol et tous les grands tribunaux 

internationaux, ville unissant l'architecture moderne et les canaux 

typiquement hollandais, ville de bord de mer. La Haye offre un 

cadre parfait pour un congrès professionnel et festif. 

Le programme du congrès est varié et captivant. Il vous informera 

des développements les plus récents dans votre discipline d'une 

façon tout aussi intéressante pour les techniciens que pour les 

managers. Le salon présentera tout ce qui est actuellement en 

vente pour et dans notre secteur d'activités. Une soirée de fête à 

Madurodam, ville miniature où tous les bâtiments historiques des 

Pays-Bas sont reproduits à l'échelle 1:25, et une visite d'entreprise 

le samedi compléteront le programme. 

Le programme et l'ambiance de ce congrès font de l'IVO 2009 un 

événement à ne pas manquer. Et, ce qui est peut-être encore plus

Chers hôtes, 

Au nom du comité organisateur, j'ai l'honneur de vous souhaiter 

la bienvenue au 17 e congrès mondial de technique en chaussures 

orthopédiques IVO 2009. Ces trois dernières années, nous avons 

travaillé dur pour vous garantir le succès absolu de cet événement. 

Nous voulons vous remercier, chers hôtes, ainsi que tous les sponsors, 

orateurs, participants et employés pour avoir contribué à ce succès. 

IVO 2009 propose un programme très varié avec de nombreux 

orateurs de marque. Vous pourrez par ailleurs participer à des 

ateliers instructifs et visiter une vaste exposition pour y découvrir 

les dernières innovations technologiques. Outre le programme 

formel, vous aurez l'occasion de rencontrer vos collègues et autres 

professionnels du secteur lors des soirées de fête à Madurodam et 

à Vlijmen. 

En tant que comité organisateur, nous sommes fi ers du résultat 

et vous souhaitons un congrès riche en informations, contacts et

Echanges de savoir pendant IVO 2009 

Elargir son horizon au-delà des frontières, faire la connaissance de 

personnes et d’entreprises d’autres pays, se surprendre et se défi er 

mutuellement. Grâce à de nombreuses contributions sous la forme 

d’exposés, la commission de programmation de IVO 2009 a été en 

mesure de composer pour vous un programme intéressant et varié. Un 

programme comprenant les tous derniers développements en matière 

de fabrication, recherche et développement, prescription de moyens 

auxiliaires, enseignement, sans oublier le life style et le sport. Une 

attention particulière sera apportée aux questions relatives aux 

chaussures pour diabétiques et pour les enfants. Des allocutions principales 

qui interpellent et incitent même parfois à réagir auront lieu en 

ouverture et en clôture du programme de chaque journée. Enfi n, le salon 

comprendra quelques présentations poster au cours desquelles vous 

pourrez apprendre directement des personnes concernées quel est l’état 

actuel des choses. Un certain nombre de workshops auront aussi lieu, 

auxquels la participation des visiteurs sera très appréciée. 

Le programme offre aux techniciens de la chaussure orthopédique, aux 

médecins (de rééducation et autres), aux chirurgiens orthopédiques, 

podologues, pédicures, entrepreneurs, formateurs et scientifi ques du 

monde entier, une opportunité de choix de se rencontrer de manière 

informelle. 

C’est aussi l’occasion pour leurs employés et pour les étudiants de 

découvrir les tous derniers développements dans le domaine de la 

technique des chaussures orthopédiques et des métiers apparentés. 

« Partnership in Footcare » (le partenariat en matière de soin des pieds) 

sera, deux jours durant, le fi l conducteur de ce congrès. 

Toutes les séances plénières auront lieu dans la salle principale. Les 

autres salles accueilleront des conférences et des workshops lors 

desquels des professionnels du secteur partageront avec vous leur 

savoir sur les développements dans leur métier. Tous les exposés au 

World Forum Theatre (salle d’assemblée plénière) seront en outre 

traduits simultanément en anglais, allemand, français et japonais. Par 

ailleurs, tous les exposés seront traduits en néerlandais, afi n que les 

néerlandophones ne maîtrisant pas parfaitement une langue étrangère 

puissent aussi tout bien suivre. 

Au nom de la commission de programmation, je vous souhaite à tous un

Dan Blocka a été élu président de l’ISPO au 

cours du congrès mondial ISPO 2007. 

M. Blocka est aussi coordinateur du programme 

d’enseignement du George Brown 

College Prothetic and Orthotic et il a plus de 

20 années d’expérience en tant qu’enseignant 

et généraliste. Au sein de l’ISPO, M. Blocka 

est impliqué dans plus de vingt-cinq études 

ISPO sur des programmes de formation 

exécutés dans le monde entier dans le domaine 

des prothèses et orthèses. Par ailleurs, il est 

activement impliqué dans la poursuite du 

développement de normes et de protocoles 

éducatifs et professionnels pour ISPO. 

Adjiedj Bakas 

Trendwatcher de 

l’Année 2009 

« Qui n’a pas d’humour ne doit pas travailler 

dans une boutique », déclare le trendwatcher 

Adjedj Bakas. Il combine information et 

divertissement en « infotainment ». Le quotidien 

néerlandais De Volkskrant le qualifi e 

d’« éminent », NRC Handelsblad d’« inspirant 

», la revue Elsevier de « stimulant », 

la chaîne de télévision américaine CNN le dit 

« optimiste », TV2 Journaal Danemark le dit 

« provocant » et d’après la BBC, « il met de 

bonne humeur ». Né en Amérique du Sud 

(1963) de parents venus d’Inde, M. Bakas vit 

et travaille aux Pays-Bas depuis 1983. Il a 

écrit des livres qui font autorité notamment 

Megatrends Europe (2006) et Leven Zonder 

Olie (La vie sans pétrole) (2007). Beyond the 

Crisis (Au-delà de la crise) a paru en 2009.

Erica Terpstra est entrée dans la politique par 

le biais du sport. En tant que Secrétaire d’Etat 

à la Santé publique et au Sport, elle était 

chargée de la politique concernant les jeunes 

et les personnes âgées, les handicapés, 

l’application de la loi sur l’Assurance Frais 

médicaux spéciaux et concernant le sport. 

En 1996, elle a introduit le Budget personnel, 

une véritable percée dans le système des frais 

médicaux aux Pays-Bas. A l’heure actuelle, 

Mme Terpstra est présidente du NOC*NSF 

(Comité olympique néerlandais * Fédération 

sportive néerlandaise) qui chapeaute le sport 

organisé aux Pays-Bas.

Recherche 

de Nike Sport 

Mario Lafortune est depuis le milieu des années 

quatre-vingt-dix directeur du Laboratoire de 

Recherche de Nike Sport. Par ailleurs, il est 

professeur à la faculté de sport de l’université 

de Porto, au Portugal. M. Lafortune a étudié 

notamment la Biomécanique, puis, en tant 

que chercheur et plus tard professeur, il a 

travaillé à diverses universités en France, au 

Canada, aux USA, en Australie et en Allemagne. 

En raison de sa bonne connaissance 

de la biomécanique et de la biologie humaine, 

il est très demandé comme orateur principal 

de congrès. M. Lafortune a un grand nombre 

de publications scientifi ques à son actif. Il a 

créé le prix Nike Shoes Award, est membre 

de la rédaction de magazines scientifi ques 

tels que le Journal of Sports Engineering, 

Technology et Footwear Science.

Le vendredi 13 novembre 2009 aura lieu à Madurodam, la plus petite ville des Pays-Bas, 

une soirée de fête informelle pleine de divertissement et de moments culinaires. Code

Soirée de fête chez Jos America 

Le samedi 14 novembre, l’après-midi, aura lieu l’inauguration festive du nouveau bâtiment 

de Jos America. Vous pouvez aussi y assister. Code vestimentaire : tenue informelle. Le 

transport en autocars des visiteurs de la Haye à Vlijmen (aller et retour) sera assuré.

Bienvenue à la Haye et 

au World Forum 

La Haye est renommée en tant que ville de la Paix et du Droit, avec notamment le Siège 

de la Cour de Justice internationale des Nations unies et celui d’Europol. Mais la Haye 

est encore bien plus. C’est le centre politique et administratif des Pays-Bas. C’est une 

ville unique en son genre, derrière les dunes, avec les belles plages de Scheveningen et 

Kijkduin, une cité historique, des possibilités de shopping incomparables, d’innombrables 

hôtels et restaurants (tendance) et un grand nombre d’attractions. 

Située centralement, la Haye est bien 

accessible en voiture et par les transports 

en commun. Amsterdam (Aéroport Schiphol) 

et Rotterdam sont très proches. Les moulins 

de Kinderdijk et les villes historiques de Delft 

et Leyde sont dans le voisinage. 




Le World Forum est situé dans la zone internationale de la Haye. La combinaison d’un

Le World Forum dispose d’une grande capacité 

de stationnement. Les tickets de sortie sont 

fournis par les distributeurs automatiques dans 

le hall central et près de l’entrée du parking. 

Transports en commun 

Le World Forum est situé à petite distance 

d’aéroports, de gares et d’autoroutes. Les 

participants apprécieront la grande commodité 

d’une carte de transport en commun. Pendant 

toute la durée du congrès, cette carte permet 

en effet de prendre l’autobus et le tramway 

à la Haye, Scheveningen et Rijswijk. Valable 

3 jours, elle coûte environ 13€€. €13,-.

Pour informer le visiteur d’IVO 2009 de façon 

optimale sur les conférences à visiter, nous 

avons préparé une brève visite guidée du 

programme. Cette visite guidée a été composée 

pour vous en fonction des thèmes 

susceptibles de vous intéresser. Profitez-en 

pour planifier votre congrès mondial IVO de 

façon à ne rien manquer ! 

Thème 1 : 

Bilan sectoriel (State of industry) 

Ce thème fera le point des activités de notre 

secteur. Tant en ce qui concerne la technologie 

que les innovations ou la structure organisationnelle. 

Cette session sera directement 

informative. Le Bilan sectoriel sera 

programmé en 3 blocs. 

Le bloc 1.1, le 13-11-2009 salle Asia de 11h 

à 12h30, a pour titre « Faits, Chiffres et 

Avenir ». Il décrit l’organisation actuelle de la 

technique des chaussures orthopédiques 

dans les différentes parties du monde ; des 

personnalités du secteur dépeignent leur 

vision de l’avenir. 

Le bloc 1.2, le 14-11-2009, salle Oceania de 

10h45 à 12h30, est intitulé « Technologie ». 

Dans ce Bloc, différents fabricants et chercheurs 

présentent leurs dernières innovations 

dans le domaine de l’application des 

TIC à la technique de la chaussure orthopédique. 

Le bloc 1.3, le 14-11-2009, salle Europe de 

13h30 à 15h15 a pour titre « Fabricants ». Les 

tout derniers développements en matière de 

produits et de prestations y seront présentés 

par divers fournisseurs. 

Thème 2 : 

Prescription 

Il s’agit là de la façon dont les chaussures 

sont prescrites aux utilisateurs. Comment 

structurer la façon d’apporter une solution 

pratique à un problème médical ? « Prescription 

» sera réparti en deux blocs : 

Le bloc 2.1, le 13-11-2009, salle Europe de 

11h à 12h30, a pour titre « Du diagnostic aux 

exigences fonctionnelles ». Différentes ap- 


proches de la prescription structurée 

seront traitées au cours de cette session 

Le bloc 2.2, le 13-11-2009 au World Forum Theater, 

de 13h30 à 15h15, porte le titre « Systèmes 

de gestion pour spécialistes du soin des pieds 

». Dans ce bloc, différents orateurs parleront 

des techniques permettant de solutionner 

les problèmes de pieds de façon structurée. 

Tout à fait recommandé aux professionnels 

souhaitant étudier les protocoles de santé ! 

Thème 3 : 

Education 

Ces blocs traitent des développements dans 

l’enseignement. Les informations sont dispensées 

en deux blocs : 

Le bloc 3.1, le 13-11-2009 salle Asia, de 13h30 

à 15h15, est intitulé « Développements dans 

l’Education ». Différents responsables dans 

le domaine de l’éducation parleront des tout 

derniers développements en matière de formation 

de techniciens et spécialistes. 

Le bloc 3.2, le 14-11-2009 au World Forum 

Theater, de 10h45 à 12h30, a pour titre 

« Education professionnelle ». Dans ce cadre, 

des travaux pratiques sont organisés par 

des professionnels pour les professionnels. 

Thème 4 : 

Style de vie et Sport 

Le bloc 4.1, le 13-11-2009 salle Europe, de 13h30 

à 15h15, a pour titre « Style de vie et sport ». 

Cette session, qui sera présidée par notre 

orateur principal de Nike, établira des liens 

entre le sport et la problématique du pied au 

moyen de différentes présentations. 

Thème 5 : 

Recherche et développement 

Il s’agit là du thème principal du Congrès 

mondial IVOP et il couvrira non moins de 5 

blocs En deux jours ! 

Le bloc 5.1, le 13-11-2009, au World Forum 

Theater de 11h à 12h30, a pour titre 

« innovation et technologie ». Différents 

chercheurs y présenteront les résultats de 

leurs recherches dans le domaine de 

l’innovation et de la technologie.

Le bloc 5.2, le 13-11-2009, salle Oceania de 

13h30 à 15h15, est intitulé « Diabète ». Cette 

maladie chronique a un impact énorme 

sur la vie de nombreuses personnes. Les 

chercheurs présentent ici les tout derniers 

résultats de leurs recherches en vue de 

limiter les conséquences de cette maladie. 

Le bloc 5.3, le 14-11-2009, salle Europe 

de 10h45 à 12h30, a pour titre « Biomécanique 

». Plusieurs orateurs présenteront 

les aspects biomécaniques de solutions de 

chaussures. Un must pour les professionnels 

travaillant beaucoup avec ce genre 

de solutions, pour mieux comprendre le 

contexte théorique de leur travail. 

Le bloc 5.4, le 14-11-2009, salle Asia de 13h30 

à 15h15, est intitulé « Biomécanique de la 

démarche ». Divers orateurs présenteront 

ici leurs résultats de recherche, entre autres 

dans le domaine de l’analyse d’image de la 

marche et de la podométrie. 

Le bloc 5.5, le14-11-2009 salle Oceania de 

13h30 à 15h15 porte le titre « Soins cliniques 

». Divers professionnels donnent leur vision 

du traitement de problèmes de pieds variés. 

Une vraie session de professionnels pour 

professionnels ! 

Thème 6 : 

Les enfants et les chaussures 

Le bloc 6.1, le 14.11.09, salle Asia de 

10h45 à 12h30, est intitulé « Les enfants 

et les chaussures ». Les professionnels 

des soins pédiatriques font le point sur 

les solutions aux problèmes de pieds 

chez les enfants. 

Thème 7 : Situation actuelle 

en France et au Japon 

Le bloc 7.1, le 14-11-2009, au World 

Forum Theater de 13h30 à15h15, a pour 

titre « Situation actuelle en France et 

au Japon ». Divers orateurs du monde 

entier, mais en particulier du Japon et de 

France, parleront alors de leurs constatations 

les plus récentes. Cette session 

fera l’objet de traduction simultanée pour 

que vous puissiez tout suivre dans votre 

propre langue.
