NAT GASCONY PLUM OIL<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM OIL, or prune kernel oil is obtained by cold pressing the almond of the kernel of the dehydrated<br />

Gascony <strong>plum</strong> (Prunus domestica L.), grown in Gascony area in France, and is then filtered.<br />

The prune oil is composed of approx. 70% of Oleic acid and 20% of Linoleic acid (Omega 6). It contains 0.5 % of<br />

unsaponifiable matters and has high tocopherol content (three times as much as in cold pressed Olive oil) , thus showing<br />

a high oxidative stability.<br />

This cold pressed oil has soothing, nourishing, moisturizing and emolliency properties. It is especially indicated for<br />

mature and dry skins.<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM OIL is a non-genetically modified material that contains no preservative or anti-oxidant. It has<br />

not been tested on animals.<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM BUTTER is obtained from the oil of cold pressed <strong>plum</strong> (Prunus domestica L.) grown in Gascony<br />

area in France.<br />

During the production of the dehydrated <strong>plum</strong>, the almond acquires a delicate sweet smell of bitter almond as found with<br />

marzipan. A fragrant oil can be obtained, and the <strong>butter</strong> made from this oil is also delicately fragranced, in tune with the<br />

current cosmetic trends.<br />

THE COLD PRESSED PLUM KERNEL OIL<br />

The prune kernel oil is obtained by cold pressing the almond of the kernel of the dehydrated Gascony <strong>plum</strong> (Prunus<br />

domestica L.), which is then filtered.<br />

The prune oil is composed of around 70% of Oleic acid and 20% of linoleic acid (Omega 6). It contains 0.5 % of<br />

unsaponifiable matters and has high tocopherol content, thus showing a high oxidative stability.<br />

This cold pressed oil has softening, nourishing, moisturizing and emolliency properties. It is especially indicated for<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM SCRUB is obtained by grinding the kernels of <strong>plum</strong>s (Prunus domestica L.) grown in<br />

the French Gascony area to standardised non-aggressive particles. During the process of fabrication of the<br />

prune, the kernel acquires a delicate smell well known in pastries (marzipan). This smell comes out in the<br />

powder, giving finished products a very appetizing fragrance, in tune with today's trend.<br />

This <strong>nat</strong>ural scrub agent is compatible with all cosmetic formulations.<br />

COSMETIC USE<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM SCRUB is suggested as a soft scrub for every type of skin, and for all kinds of skin<br />

care applications.<br />

Added to a cleansing product, NAT GASCONY PLUM SCRUB removes the superficial, dead horny layers of<br />

the stratum corneum by mechanical action, cleanses in depth the skin from the dust and tiny debris, and<br />

NAT PISTACHIO BUTTER is obtained from refined cold pressed Pistachio oil.<br />

THE REFINED COLD PRESSED PISTACHIO OIL<br />

The pistachio oil is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of the pistachio tree (Pistacia vera L.) origi<strong>nat</strong>ing in the Middle<br />

East, which is then filtered. This oil is currently used in the food industry for its potent aroma. The balanced composition<br />

of oleic acid (50%) and linolenic acid (40%) similar to that of Olive oil, imparts nourishing and emollient properties very<br />

interesting for cosmetic products.<br />

Oleic acid is known for its affinity to the intercorneocyte cement. This makes it easy for the nourishing or active<br />

substances to go through the hydro lipidic film and as such can be considered as a booster of the skin bioavailability.<br />

The linoleic acid, precursor of the ceramid synthesis, is particularly adapted to the care of dry or mature skins. It is known<br />

for re-fatting and boosting of the intercorneocyte cement. It has soothing and calming properties on sensitive and irritated<br />

skins. The linoleic acid is also a <strong>nat</strong>ural inhibitor agent of the 5 alpha-reductase enzyme involved in the seborrhoea<br />

secretion, responsible for greasy and dull skins.<br />

The pistachio oil is also rich in beta-sitosterol (80 mg/100g), an unsaponifiable component known for its anti-inflammatory<br />

and soothing properties.<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

NAT PASSION BUTTER is obtained from the refined cold pressed Passion fruit oil (Passiflora edulis fruit oil) grown in the<br />

Amazonian rain forest.<br />

THE REFINED COLD PRESSED PASSION OIL<br />

The Passion plant is an evergreen, flowering vine from Brazil. The fruit oil is obtained by cold pressing of the fruit, then<br />

filtered.<br />

This oil is unique due to the balanced composition of fatty acids with a noticeable high (60%) concentration of linoleic<br />

acid with good stability, 20% of oleic and 12% of palmitic acids.<br />

Oleic and Palmitic acids are two major fatty acids found in the sebum. Thus, the Passion oil has a nourishing action in<br />

the stratum corneum.<br />

In addition, Linoleic acid is the main constituent of the alkyl and glucoceramids that are found in the skin’s hydrolipidic<br />

film and helps to maintain the skin barrier function.<br />

It is known that a lack of Linoleic acid is responsible for a dysfunction in the skin renewal process. Similarly, a lack of<br />

Linoleic acid in the hair follicle epithelium is one of the causes for comedos to appear.<br />

Therefore, Passion Oil is indicated to treat the problems of dry, irritated skin and acne as well as mature and fragile<br />

NAT HAZELNUT T OIL, or toasted hazelnut oil, is obtained by cold pressing the fruits of a variety of the hazelnut tree<br />

(Corylus Avellana L.), particularly well adapted to the South Western of France where it is grown.<br />

Before pressing, the fruits are slightly dry-toasted hence the unique praline-like fragrance of the oil, in tune with the<br />

current cosmetic trends.<br />

NAT HAZELNUT T OIL is composed of approx. 70% of Oleic acid and 18% of Linoleic acid (Omega 6). It contains<br />

Oxidative Stability of Passion, Pistachio, and Plum Butters (*) (**)<br />

(*) These <strong>butter</strong>s were developed by NATUROCHIM S.A.S. and are available under the following commercial names,<br />

respectively: NAT PASSION BUTTER, NAT PISTACHIO BUTTER, and NAT GASCONY PLUM BUTTER. They are<br />

manufactured using a process unique to NATUROCHIM S.A.S and correspond to precise specifications.<br />

(**) This study was performed by an independent laboratory. The full report is available under confidentiality agreement<br />

Purpose: the purpose of the study concerns the oxidative stability assessment of pistachio, passion and <strong>plum</strong><br />

<strong>butter</strong>s. The oxidative stability indices (OSI) of the <strong>butter</strong>s were determined according the standardized method<br />

NF ISO 6886. The principle of the method is based on the accelerated oxidation of a compound in drastic<br />

conditions of temperature and air concentration. In the study, the oxidative stability is compared to linseed<br />

(LSO) and meadowfoam (MDO) oils respectively taken as negative and positive controls.<br />

Methods: before performing oxidative tests, each oil is characterized according to the standardized methods<br />

usually carried out in lipid chemistry, including fatty acid distribution, pour points, iodine and acid values. OSI<br />

determi<strong>nat</strong>ions were performed at 98°C with an air flow velocity of 20 l/h.<br />

Results: the oxidative stability of lipids is generally correlated to their iodine value and especially to their<br />

relative composition in mono-unsaturated (e.g. oleic) and polyunsaturated (e.g. linoleic and linolenic) fatty acid<br />

content. On the other hand, the rate of air oxidation is proportional to the number of carbon-carbon double<br />

bonds in the fatty acid chain. Actually, the oxidation rate of linolenic acid is significantly higher than that of oleic<br />

acid. Among the lipids tested in the study, it appears that LSO which is rich in linolenic acid (≈ 48%) is the less<br />

resistant to oxidation. MDO is recognized as one of the most stable vegetable oils 1 . MDO is mainly composed of<br />

gadoleic acid (≈ 61%), a mono-unsaturated long chain fatty acid that is more resistant to air oxidation than oleic<br />

acid 1 . It is clear that MDO is taken in the study as positive control. Moreover, mango <strong>butter</strong> is recognized as<br />

very stable seed <strong>butter</strong>. From a theoretical standpoint, the vegetable oils and <strong>butter</strong>s included in the study can<br />

be classified according their expected oxidative stability in the following order:<br />

MDO > Seed oil <strong>butter</strong>s (mango, pistachio, <strong>plum</strong>, passion) >> LSO<br />

1. In a mixer combine in the following order:<br />

- NAT GASCONY PLUM OIL<br />

- S-FACE L-1001<br />

2. Heat slightly in order to solubilize S-FACE L1001<br />

Once the mix is homogenous:<br />

3. Add with high stirring:<br />

- AEROSIL 200<br />

PRUNUS DOMESTICA SEED EXTRACT<br />

4. Mix to obtain a uniform and homogenous gel than add:<br />

- SEL DE SALIES DU BEARN<br />

5. Cool down if necessary to 30°C before packing<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM OIL – USE IN HAIR CARE<br />

NAT GASCONY PLUM OIL is composed of approx. 70% of Oleic acid and 20% of Linoleic acid<br />

(Omega 6).<br />

1. Oleic acid regulates hair cycle. It slows it down, and, therefore, prevents hair loss.<br />

2. Linoleic acid (Omega 6) is an inhibitor of 5 alpha reductase, an enzyme involved in the hyper<br />

seborrhea and hair loss<br />

Linoleic acid is also constituent of ceramides and therefore allows the reconstruction of hair<br />

ceramides<br />

Consequently, its use for hair treatments is entirely appropriate.
