EARLY FIELD TRIAL Chapter 4 98 Sniffer Adaptive Application Analyzer Figure 4-19. IP Address Tab (with some rows selected and highlighted) Sorting Statistics Panel Tabs You can sort the Statistics panel tabs by any available entity or metric by clicking in a column heading. Click a second time to reverse the sort order. For example, you can sort the IP Address tab by packets by clicking in the Packets column heading. In response, the IP Address with the most packets will be shown at the top of the tab. Clicking a second time shows the IP Address with the least amount of packets at the top of the tab. Sorts Not Applied to Aliases When you sort on a tab’s index column, the sort is not applied to aliases. Instead, the sort applies to the underlying values for any entity displayed with an alias. This is true of both predefined and custom aliases. For example, if you sorted the IP Protocol tab by the IP Protocol column, the addresses would be sorted by their numerical identifiers rather than the textual aliases. This means that after a sort by IP Protocol, TCP would appear ahead of RSVP because its numerical ID (6) is less than RSVP’s (46) even though its alias is alphabetically after RSVP. Sorts and “0.0.0.0” IP Addresses When you sort a Statistics Panel tab on an IP Address column, the 0.0.0.0 IP address, if present in the selected traffic, appears in the opposite position of what you would normally expect: When an ascending sort is applied and addresses are sorted from least to greatest (for example, from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.75), the 0.0.0.0 address, if present in the selected traffic, would appear at the end of the list, after 192.168.1.75. When a descending sort is applied and addresses are sorted from greatest to least (for example, from 192.168.1.75 to 192.168.1.1), the 0.0.0.0 address, if present in the selected traffic, would appear at the start of the list, before 192.168.1.75. a

EARLY FIELD TRIAL Using the Statistics Panel NOTE: The IP address 0.0.0.0 is sometimes used as a client IP address in DHCP Discover and Request packets. Using the Statistics Panel Tools The Statistics panel includes controls that let you change the way data is displayed in the Statistics panel tabs. You can expand and collapse columns, show and hide aliases and alias groups, and so on. Most of these tools are accessed by right-clicking a cell in a Statistics tab and selecting from the context menu that appears (Figure 4-20). The exact options available depend up on the cell in which you right-click. Figure 4-20. Statistics Panel Tools (Context Menu) The following topics describe how to use these tools: Clearing Selections Clearing Selections on page 99 Showing/Clearing Highlights on page 100 Collapsing and Expanding Column Data on page 100 Showing and Hiding Aliases and Alias Groups on page 101 Showing and Hiding Conversation Reciprocals on page 101 Resolving DNS Names on page 103 Use either the eraser icon or the Clear All Selections command in the context menu to clear all selections on the currently selected tab.
