EARLY FIELD TRIAL Chapter 9 In the Alarms tab, you can: 230 Sniffer Adaptive Application Analyzer Set the threshold level for Expert alarms (symptoms and diagnoses). Set the severity level for each Expert alarm. Specify that an alarm is recorded in the Sniffer Alarm log (Alarm Logged). IMPORTANT: The Alarm Logged option is not used by InfiniStream appliances. It is only used by Sniffer Portable and Sniffer Distributed. There are two main columns in this tab: The Description column contains the alarms (symptoms and diagnoses) organized under the various Expert layers. The relevant layers depend upon the currently selected topology; however, in all cases the Service, Application, Session, Connection, Station, DLC, Global, and Route layers are relevant. The Value column contains the values set for each alarm. The values are shown only when the Expert layer is expanded and the alarms are displayed.
EARLY FIELD TRIAL Protocols To configure the Expert Alarms: Expert Analysis 1 Click the zero/one icons to expand/collapse all the Expert layers. or Click the plus icon to open an Expert layer and show all the symptoms and diagnoses (alarms). 2 Click the plus icon to show the settings for each alarm. 3 Double click the Threshold value cell and enter a new threshold value. NOTE: The Threshold value cell appears last in the Expert Alarms setting list. 4 Repeat this process for all Expert Alarms, and then click OK. Concentrate Expert analysis only on the protocols you are interested in analyzing (and thereby improve Expert performance). In the Tools > Expert Options Protocols tab, select the protocols you would like to Expert to analyze for each layer. Be default, all protocols are enabled. However, if you are only interested in specific protocols at a given layer, you can improve Expert performance by disabling some protocols. IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that if you exclude a certain layer from Expert processing, you are also automatically excluding Expert processing from occurring at any layers above the excluded layer. For example, if you exclude the Connection layer from Expert processing, no Expert analysis will occur at the Session, Application, or Service layers. Expert requires analysis provided at the supporting layers to provide analysis for higher layers. User’s Guide 231
