EARLY FIELD TRIAL Raw Capture Mode Postcapture Analysis Copying a Data Pattern from the Decode Screen You can copy the data pattern for your filter from the display decode screen. To do this, select the packet before you invoke the define filter function. In the Data Pattern tab, select Add Pattern, then Set Data. This copies the data field from the selected packet into the data pattern fields, and calculates the offset and length. In addition, you can use the selected pattern as a template, editing it in the display to suit your needs. Filtering by Packet Size, Protocol, and Packet Types Use options on the Advanced tab to define a filter based on packet size, protocol type, or packet type. To create packet size, protocol, and packet type filters: 1 Go to Display > Define Filter, then click the Profiles button. Assign the filter a name and configure the settings. If you are modifying an existing filter, ensure that filter is selected from the Settings For: list before continuing. 2 Click the Advanced tab. 3 To define a new filter, first click the Profiles button and give the new filter a name. Then, configure your settings. If you are modifying an existing filter, ensure that filter is selected from the Settings For: list before continuing. 4 Specify one or more network protocols on which to filter. All network protocols with a check mark will be included. You can select one or more protocols or sub protocols to act as a filter. If the packet matches one of the selected protocol types, it will pass through the filter. If no protocol is selected, all protocol types will be captured. If a protocol you need is not defined in the protocol list, you can define your own protocol filter using the data pattern filter controls. NOTE: Not all protocols in the list are supported by the Expert. For a list of currently supported protocols for Expert, see the online Help. 5 From the Packet Size dropdown list, specify the packet size on which to filter. You can specify packets that are equal to, greater than, or less than a specific packet size, or in a range or outside of a range of packet sizes. User’s Guide 189
