110 Sniffer Adaptive Application Analyzer
Unlike the monitoring function, which stores statistical measurements
about your network traffic, capture collects and stores packet data from
your network in a capture buffer. The packet data stored during capture
can be either Adaptive Session Packets or raw packets, depending on
your capture mode (refer to Configuring and Starting Capture on page
111 for details on selecting a capture mode).
Capture Mode Packet Data Captured
Adaptive • Adaptive Session Packets for supported protocols.
• Other packets can be captured in raw form with
an optional slice size or filtered entirely.
Packet Packets are captured as they are seen on the wire
(with an optional slice size).
After packet data has been captured, you use the Mining feature to
decode and display the packets in the capture buffer, providing you with
detailed information about network transactions (postcapture analysis).
When you click the Mine button to launch postcapture analysis, Sniffer
Adaptive Application Analyzer automatically launches the postcapture
view corresponding to your selected capture mode, Adaptive or Packet;
refer to Adaptive Session Analysis on page 141 for details.
