In Brave New World Revisited, Aldous Huxley said, <strong>in</strong> 1958; ―Meanwhile there is still<br />

some freedom left <strong>in</strong> the world... some of us believe that without freedom a human be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

cannot become fully human, and that freedom is therefore supremely valuable. Perhaps the<br />

forces that now menace freedom are too strong to be resisted for long. It is still our duty to do<br />

whatever we can to resist them‖.<br />

On the road to that goal, other th<strong>in</strong>kers po<strong>in</strong>t toward a possible manmade barrier. They<br />

question whether an <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>gly stressful electromagnetic environment is <strong>in</strong>terfer<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

clear th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g on a large scale. If so, then society's ignorance of this <strong>in</strong>visible crazy-maker is<br />

the problem.<br />

Humanity has the resources to change its technologies if we have the political will to do<br />

so. Non-scientists must educate themselves on the issues and speak up; the sciences as a self<br />

regulat<strong>in</strong>g system seems to have broken down.<br />

The breakup of the sciences <strong>in</strong>to ever-narrower specialties has made it difficult for<br />

specialists to synthesize a wide range of facts about our planet and come up with wisdom.
