Bra<strong>in</strong> Biofeedback<br />

Real time bra<strong>in</strong> biofeedback is another area of bra<strong>in</strong> research which is beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

provide great opportunities to many <strong>in</strong>dividuals. This area has yielded new approaches for<br />

ga<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g control of the m<strong>in</strong>d. Through <strong>in</strong>teractive computer technologies, it is now possible to<br />

monitor bra<strong>in</strong> waves on a real-time basis, so that the <strong>in</strong>dividual us<strong>in</strong>g these tools can see<br />

what bra<strong>in</strong> waves graphically look like on a computer screen, while the person is th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

There are several systems now on the market, with one of the f<strong>in</strong>est be<strong>in</strong>g produced <strong>in</strong><br />

the United States by American Biotech Corporation. Us<strong>in</strong>g these systems, a person can learn<br />

to manipulate his or her own bra<strong>in</strong> waves <strong>in</strong> profound ways. Some of the th<strong>in</strong>gs which have<br />

been achieved <strong>in</strong>clude reach<strong>in</strong>g high meditative states (states of consciousness not otherwise<br />

reached without years of practice), <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g the recovery rates of bra<strong>in</strong> dysfunctions<br />

result<strong>in</strong>g from strokes or accidents, and improvements <strong>in</strong> children suffer<strong>in</strong>g from attention<br />

deficit and other disorders.<br />

These new bra<strong>in</strong> technologies are be<strong>in</strong>g used to help people with various problems. A<br />

number of researchers have shown the effectiveness of bra<strong>in</strong> biofeedback <strong>in</strong> break<strong>in</strong>g drug<br />

and alcohol dependencies. The tools and techniques have been used for cur<strong>in</strong>g a number of<br />

mental disorders by teach<strong>in</strong>g a person how to create bra<strong>in</strong> patterns with<strong>in</strong> themselves, at<br />

will, to change their state of consciousness. Researchers found that with<strong>in</strong> 30 to 60 days<br />

most people can learn how to create a number of specific mental states at will, and without<br />

the cont<strong>in</strong>ued use of these mach<strong>in</strong>es.<br />

The mach<strong>in</strong>es serve as a bridge to new levels of mental control. The techniques us<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

computer <strong>in</strong>terfaces can be expla<strong>in</strong>ed simply as a system for teach<strong>in</strong>g how to control one's<br />

own th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> one's own way to ga<strong>in</strong> specific results. It can be viewed as a small child<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g to control his or her legs crawl<strong>in</strong>g, then walk<strong>in</strong>g and then runn<strong>in</strong>g. We, as adults, are<br />

still at the crawl<strong>in</strong>g stage when it comes to mental control. These technologies are br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

us opportunities to take greater control of ourselves through better control of our m<strong>in</strong>ds.<br />

The value of this technology can not be understated.<br />

Chang<strong>in</strong>g the way we th<strong>in</strong>k, if we are <strong>in</strong>dividually <strong>in</strong> control of our changes, is a healthy<br />

th<strong>in</strong>g. It is disturb<strong>in</strong>g to realize that governments are <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> these technologies, not for<br />

beneficial <strong>in</strong>dividual uses but <strong>in</strong> order to ga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>creased control over populations they view as<br />

dangerous. These technologies offer both great promise and a high potential for abuse. S<strong>in</strong>ce<br />

the technologies are here now, all of the work <strong>in</strong> these areas should be open to public review.<br />

This would help assure the preservation of the most fundamental right of humank<strong>in</strong>d, the<br />

right to th<strong>in</strong>k <strong>in</strong> our own way.<br />

The work be<strong>in</strong>g done <strong>in</strong> these fields has profound implications for all of us. The<br />

knowledge held by government agencies, under the guise of national security, would speed<br />

the understand<strong>in</strong>g of these technologies and their implications. If the government‘s research<br />

were made public, we would have a significant advance <strong>in</strong>to one of the most important areas<br />

of human development. The <strong>in</strong>creased efficient use of the human bra<strong>in</strong> would make it more<br />

likely that we could solve the very complex problems exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the world, <strong>in</strong> addition to<br />

improv<strong>in</strong>g the quality of life for many people.<br />

This chapter <strong>in</strong>troduces readers to some of the concepts which we explored, and direct<br />

readers, who become ―compilers‖ <strong>in</strong> their own research pursuits, to new sources. This<br />

chapter also amplifies knowledge of energy <strong>in</strong> various wave forms and frequencies which can<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease rather than destroy human potential. The use and development of these applications<br />

does not need to be imposed on people through the military's manipulation of the ionosphere<br />

or by other external means. These technological <strong>in</strong>novations should be chosen by <strong>in</strong>dividuals<br />

based upon their own decisions.<br />

In the next chapter we beg<strong>in</strong> to explore the military's level of knowledge and uses of these<br />

technologies, based on the work of the Air Force, major universities and private <strong>in</strong>dustry.
