Whether shoes, accessories or designer collections, the Swiss luxury design house Bally stands for quality, tradition and elegance - past and present. Paris is widely known as a fashion mecca for some of the most famous designers in the world. What is little known is that the Swiss design house Bally can also trace its roots back to that French metropolis. While on business in Paris in 1850, Carl Franz Bally discovered elegant women’s shoes, which he promptly brought back to his wife. Inspired by their beauty Carl Franz Bally and his brother Fritz opened a shoe factory named Bally & Co. After three years Fritz left the company, which was then renamed C.F. Bally Co. Although in business only for a few years, Bally developed quickly into a prosperous enterprise with over 7,000 employees and exports to North and South America. At the turn of the 20 th century Bally began manufacturing women’s pumps - a low-cut shoe with a high heel suitable for daily wear. No longer just worn on dance floors as formal evening wear, pumps increasingly became a part of exquisite daily fashion. While women enjoyed the everyday design winter 2009/2010 27
