throne and holding a bow on the reverse. Surprisingly, the
king's "name" on the reverse is almost always "Arsakes",
followed by various Hellenic titles.

Commentary: Alas, alas! There have been major changes in rates charged by
the United States Postal Service. The changed for domestic rates are modest,
except for registered mail, where the rates have increased by approximately
20%. As a result, for domestic orders, our shipping charge will now be $4 for all
orders up to $500 and $8 for all orders over $500.
Foreign rates have charged dramatically, in part to reflect the fall of the dollar
vis-à-vis many other currencies, such as the Euro now averaging about $1.35
and the British pound, fluctuating around the level of $2.00. More depressingly,
the wonderful Global Priority Mail has been scrapped, replaced by the same
Priority Mail we use domestically, but with international rates of $9 to Mexico and
Canada, $11 to everywhere else, so long as the contents can fit in the standard
Priority envelope. Also, the priority envelopes no longer have the barcode found
on the old Global Priority envelopes, and are thus regarded everywhere as
ordinary first class mail. And the basic registry fee for overseas mail has risen
from $7.90 to $10.15, a huge rise in US dollars but little change in euros or
sterling.
At present, I am avidly working on the 3rd edition of the Checklist of Islamic
Coins, which will be published as a hardcover version of between 400 and 500
pages, including well over 1000 illustrated coins. The new book will be more a
catalog than a simple "checklist", and will be three or four times heavier than the
second edition. The current text is almost 50% greater than the 2nd edition and
seems to be growing every week. Naturally, I remain open to any and all
comments and suggestions, though of course I cannot guarantee that I will use
them all. But please feel free to contact me, by email or phone or old fashioned
snail-mail.
Members of the ANA (American Numismatic Association): If you are voting for
governors in the ANA, both Joe and I endorse the following six candidates:
Chester L. Krause Clifford Mishler
Edward C. Rochette Joseph E. Boling
Radford Stearns Walter A. Ostromecki
Since you get to vote for seven candidates, I would suggest either John R.
Eschbach or Anthony Tumonis for the seventh. Why is this important? The ANA
has migrated from collector orientation to investment orientation, from coins of
all price levels to expensive slabbed coins, from public board meetings to many
secretive private board meetings. This is obvious by viewing the advertising in
The Numismatist. The candidates mentioned here are anxious to return the
organization towards all its members, whereas their opponents are aiming in the
opposite direction. I have been a member of the ANA since 1962 and intend to
remain a member, even should the group fail to return to its roots.
