1. President Yvonne opened the meeting at
18.30h in Hotel Shangri La, Surabaya room.
Sergeant at arms welcomed 8 RCJ members,
guest Dalton Tanonaka who is a well known
Metro TV Anchor “Indonesia Now” and
guest DPR-Member Atte Sugandi, former
Secretary of RC Lampung.
Mr. Ray Tirtha and 6 Rotaractors, also
attended.
Mr. Dalton explained why the journalists
opened a law suit against the Cabinet
Secretary Dipo Alam.
2. Rtn Leo informed about Rotaractor’s visit
to India. They prefer their own country to
live in.
3. The Speech
PP Jacques spoke about Indonesia’s Energy
problems and Solution. The Power demand
at the end of this century from 240.000.000
Indonesians in the best case will reach
480.000 MW.
Currently PLN is producing only 30.000
MW. PLN has therefore to increase its
supply 16 fold until the end of this century.
Currently 69% of the electricity is produced
by PLN by burning coal and fuel oil and
emitting CO2 which is one of the climate
changing greenhouse gasses. Coal and fuel
oil are limited in quantity and will expire
sooner or later.
A wiser energy policy would replacing coal
and fuel oil by renewable energies as :

Renewable Energies are clean and do not
affect the Climate.

There is a project to get Solar electricity
from the Sahara desert, North Africa.
Theoretically it would be possible to cover
the whole energy demand of the world by a
huge solar electricity plant in the Sahara.
This picture shows how different, renewable
power sources can be combined to cover any
energy demand of the world.

Hydropower in Indonesia covers now only
3% of the electricity supply. For producing
hydro electricity two things are needed:
Water and denivellation.
The flowing water from a river or a dam is
turning a turbine which is producing
electricity from a generator.
The biggest hydropower potential of
Indonesia is in Irian Jaya where the yearly
rainfalls in the high Mountains above 4000
m.a.s.l reach 12m.
Many big dams with enormous quantities of
storage capacities could be built there
without affecting any people and providing
enough water to produce electricity in the
dry season. Transmission cables for the
electricity transport under sea to Java and
other islands are technically feasible without
much losses.
PDG Willy Wiguna stressed on the fact that
by building hydropower plants there, the
province would be developed.
4. President Yvonne informs that RCJ has
paid Rp. 7’000’000 to SDN 1 Karet Tengsin
for increasing the electrical power to 6 kW
and Rp. 5’000’000 to RA Semanggi for their
project “Jump over the world”.
