10. Cleaning<br />

(a) The product contact surface <strong>of</strong> all milk handling equipment must be cleaned after each<br />

use.<br />

11. Sanitizing<br />

(a) All product contact surfaces <strong>of</strong> all milk handling equipment must be effectively sanitized<br />

before use. Sanitizer must be an approved type with full label directions.<br />

12. Storage<br />

(a) All milk containers and equipment, including milking machine vacuum hoses, must be<br />

stored in <strong>the</strong> milk house.<br />

(b) Milking equipment must be stored to assure complete drainage.<br />

(c) Filters and single service plastic bags shall be stored in <strong>the</strong> original container inside a<br />

protective box. Bags for milk storage must be stored in a manner which protects <strong>the</strong>m<br />

from contamination. It is recommended <strong>the</strong>y be stored in an enclosed cabinet.<br />

MILKING<br />

13. Udders and Teats<br />

(a) Milking must be done in a milking barn or parlor.<br />

(b) Not Applicable<br />

(c) Milking ewes must be free <strong>of</strong> visible dirt on <strong>the</strong>ir udders, flanks and bellies.<br />

(d) Teats <strong>of</strong> all milking sheep are to be cleaned and treated with a sanitizing solution and<br />

dried just prior to milking.<br />

(e) Wet hand milking is prohibited.<br />

TRANSFER AND PROTECTION OF MILK<br />

14. Protection from Contamination<br />

(a) Not Applicable<br />

(b) All product lines must be physically separated from CIP circuits when milking or<br />

when milk is stored in bulk tank.<br />

(c) Overflowed, leaked, spilled or improperly handled milk shall be discarded.<br />

(d) Each bucket or container <strong>of</strong> milk must be transferred to <strong>the</strong> milkhouse immediately.<br />

(e) Equipment containing milk must be properly covered during transfer and storage.<br />

(f) Any sanitized product contact surface which has been exposed to contamination is<br />

required to be sanitized before use.<br />

(g) Air injectors must be located in <strong>the</strong> milk house.<br />

15. Drug & Chemical Control<br />

(a) Cleaners and sanitizers must be properly labeled, including instructions for use.<br />

(b) Syringes, bolus guns, etc. shall be stored in a manner to preclude any contamination <strong>of</strong><br />

milk or milk contact surfaces.
