Why offer a quality
crèche service?
Providing a quality crèche service
will allow parents to feel confident
that children will be safe and well
cared for during their attendance
at a crèche.
A quality crèche service should
provide:
• a safe, healthy and welcoming
environment for children where
interactions between staff,
children and parents are warm
and positive
• opportunities for children
to play with equipment and
activities suited to their age
and interests
• opportunities for children to
experience positive social
interactions with other
children and adults.
A crèche service must meet the exclusion criteria
specified in regulation 4(2) of the Child Care Services
Regulations 2007. This includes:
• all children that attend will be at least two
months of age or older
• each child’s parent/relative will be available to
attend to children’s immediate physical needs
such as nappy change, feeding or comforting
• no individual child will attend for more than three
hours in one session
• no individual child will attend for more than
12 hours in any week
• no individual child will attend for more than two care
sessions in one day, separated by at least one hour.
