Crèche care is short-term or one-off care provided for
children while their parents participate in an activity,
meeting or other event at the same premises.
A crèche service can be provided within a range of
venues, for example:
• recreation centres
• health and fitness clubs
• aquatic centres
• sporting clubs/centres
• health/medical clinics
• churches
• community/learning centres
• shopping centres.
Providing a crèche service can offer organisations the
potential to:
• increase the opportunity for parents to participate
• increase membership and use of facilities.
Crèche services are not required to be licensed under
the Child Care Services Act 2007.
This booklet has been developed to provide guidance
and support to assist organisations to provide a
quality crèche service. Some useful contacts are
provided on pages 17 and 18.
