The Porta II is a solid altimazimuth mount with a 20 lb
payload capacity. It features whole circle slow motion in both
directions with its Flexible Handles. This minimizes vibrations
and keeps your view sharp and steady. Very useful in searching
and tracking celestial objects. The mount head is easily removed
to allow for a switch to a heavier tripod.
Features:
The slow motion handle positions
and the amount of friction on the
axes can be adjusted using the tools
stored in rubber covered compartment.
Your Pick up and Go Choice
In addition, this is a great mount for terrestrial viewing. Our
gear drives make it a simple matter to precisely track a planet
or a ship on the horizon by turning the elevation and/or azimuth
control handles. The “World-Standard” dovetail attachment
system on the Porta II was developed by Vixen. This allows the
Porta II to accept various dovetail mounted optical tubes and
binoculars.
Vixen has been making versions of the GP mount almost since
the inception of the company. It originally started out as the
Polaris Mount, then evolved through refinements to the Great
Polaris Mount and with further refinements, now as the GPD2 Mount.
As with all versions, the GPD2 incorporates the same care and
precision that is evident in all Vixen products The GPD2
equatorial mount is the stronger and heftier of the GP2
mounts. With its solid steel R. A. and Declination axes
and brass worm gears, this mount will hold up to years of
heavy use. In order to assure accurate tracking for
astrophotography the worm gears are especially machined
to a very high precision that minimizes periodic error.
The GPD2 Mount is equipped with a polar axis scope with
a built in illuminator. The GPD2 holds almost 50% more
weight than the GP2. Add the Dual Axis Drive Motor set
for smooth, accurate tracking.
The PORTA II is a solid performer when
viewing objects at high magnification,
Damping and vibration are
significantly reduced as compared
to other lesser quality telescope
mounts. Center an object in the
eye piece and use the included
slow motion handles to maintain
the view.
This lightweight 5” reflector is a favorite of
many new astronomers because it features
remarkable light gathering with sharp images
for its price and size. With a standard 20mm
Plőssl, more than the entire moon fills the eyepiece.
You’ll view innumerable star clusters and
dark clouds, not to mention nebulas and galaxies.
Add a 32mm and the heavens open up with
a remarkable 2.5 degree field of view! All of the
stars in the Pleiades can be viewed at the same
time. The visual observer will enjoy wide views
of deep sky objects. Actual groups of nebula or
clusters can be viewed at the same time with this
instrument.
The R130Sf comes standard with the 6 x 30 finder, 2 eyepieces, tube rings and dovetail tube plate
that fits on all Vixen mounts. This is a scope you can start with on a user-friendly Porta II Mount
and later move up to one of our electronic mounts such as the GP2 or Sphinx. 5 Year Warranty.
VMC200L Reflector
VMC200L Reflector
The VMC200L is a unique 200mm (8”) catadioptric optical system. It incorporates a
primary mirror and a meniscus corrector just before a secondary mirror. By doing so,
light is corrected twice on the optical path. The end result is that spherical
aberration and field curvature are corrected to a high degree of
optical performance. The VMC200L’s primary
mirror is f/2.5; the compound optical system
is f/9.75. This makes the system much more
compact and portable than its competition. With
the optical correction placed before the secondary
mirror, the VMC200L avoids the necessity of
having a corrector plate and all the dewing
problems associated with a closed optical tube.
An additional key feature is the rack and pinion
focusing that is placed behind the primary mirror.
The use of this focusing system eliminates the image shift 5829 Optical Tube Only
associated with most other SCT systems. This is especially
important when using high power magnification or
VMC260L Reflector
A superior modified Cassegrain design, the VMC260L outperforms
a traditional Schmidt-Cassegrain. The Japanese made Vixen
VMC260L is a true all purpose telescope.
With a focal length of 3,000mm, the tube is only
about 650mm (20”) long. As a result the
instrument is very portable. With its
10.4” aperture the VMC260L collects
enough light for serious visual and
photographic applications and for
both planetary and deep sky observing.
The large 260mm aperture Catadioptric
design consists of two mirrors and a unique
double meniscus lens design. This corrector,
in front of the secondary mirror, virtually
eliminates spherical aberration and field curvature with
superb contrast. Focusing is through primary mirror movement.
Objective lens
Focal length (Focal ratio)
The VMC260Lfeatures Dielectric Coated Mirrors for brighter star images.
It is an excellent telescope for observing globular clusters, double stars and distant
planets. With its open tube the telescope cools down quicker than a classical Cassegrain. Light coming
from the object is reflected off the primary mirror (f/2.5) and then passes through the corrector in front
of the secondary mirror. This correcting lens is responsible for the large usable field of the VMC260L.
VIXEN’s unique VISAC Catadioptric System
The VISAC (Vixen’s Sixth order Aspherical Catadioptric) design achieves
a photographic field virtually fre of aberration. As coma, spherical and
curvature of field are perfectly corrected, images captured are stunningly
sharp. Star images are less than 15 microns across all the way to the very
edge of the 42mm image circle. It is a telescope designed for both visual
observation and astrophotography.
Fluorite Lens VC200L The comparison to the left shows
extremely small chromatic aberration,
Edge
in very small five hundredth millimeter
units. This clearly shows the aberration
in the VISAC system is far less
than on a fluorite refractor, which itself
produces exceptional color correction.
VISAC
The Astro-Photographer’s Dream Machine
The VC 200L is an 8” f/9.0 highly corrected, highly specialized telescope for astro-imaging. Vixen’s
unique catadioptric design features a high precision sixth order aspherical primary mirror, a convex
secondary mirror and triplet corrector lens. VISAC is an abbreviation for Vixen’s Sixth-Order
Aspherical Cassegrain. VISAC provides
high-definition star images to the edge of
a wide viewing field and offers
exceptionally outstanding performance for
astrophotography. The primary mirror is
held by a retaining ring, instead of hooks
to decrease flare and enhance contrast.
Even at the edge of the 35mm film format
(larger CCD chips) stars are sharp ( smaller
than 15 micrometers) This is smaller than the
2632OTA
resolution of fine quality CCD cameras, which means that the telescope does not limit the image quality.
With its elaborate aspherical optical design it achieves an excellent image correction throughout the large
illuminated field. (42mm diameter fully illuminated)
With the f/6.4 reducer you get much shorter exposure times.
The reducer is a highly recommended optional accessory. Rack
NA140SSf Refractor
The 5.5” NA140SSf is an incredible performer. Deep Sky objects
are easily visible and Astro-Imagers looking for a fast instrument with clear
aperture will be impressed with the NA140’s performance. The advanced 4-element objective lens, set in
two groups, minimizes residual chromatic aberrations. With its unique Petzval like correcting lens at the
rear, this Neo-Achromatic telescope is specifically designed to provide improved color and a flat field,
ideal for astrophotography. Manufactured in Japan, comes complete with our new Dual Speed Focuser.
One user states:
“Correction is so good, that I have also used the telescope for stellar and lunar photography - a use for which
I had not originally purchased this telescope.” The NA140 “has excellent imagery across the field of the
Canon DSLR but seems to have little or no apparent lateral color error. Its low weight for its aperture, easy
portability and excellent medium focal length and fast f-ratio make it the perfect ‘one telescope does it all’ product.”
Prime Focus Photography: This technique uses a single lens relfex camera body or a CCD
camera attached with adapters to an optical tube. Neither an eyepiece or a camera lens is
used. Though the object size is smaller than the eyepiece projection, the objects are sharp.
This method is suitable for photographs of the entire moon, nebulae, or star clusters.
Eyepiece Projection Photography: This method takes images of a magnified object through
an eyepiece inserted between the optical tube and a single lens reflex camera body or CCD
camera. The image taken with this technique appears larger than that taken with prime focus
photography. This method is also excellent for photographing an enlarged view of the moon or
planets.
Achromatic Refractor
Vixen standard achromatic refractors feature stable
and high contrast images.
ED Apochromatic Refractor
Vixen ED Refractors feature sharp and clear images
virtually free of false color. Recommmended for
astrophotography.
Magnification
Maginification=focal length of optical tube + focal
length of the eyepiece.
Effective Diameter of primary lens or mirror
The larger the telescope’s lens, the more light it collects.
Also, the larger the diameter, more details will
be observed.
Focal Length
The length of the path from the lens or primary mirror
to the point of focus. The longer the focal length,
the higher the magnification produced by the telescope
with any eyepiece.
Focal Ratio
Obtained by dividing the focal length by the effective
diameter of the lens or mirror. The smaller the focal
ratio = wider field of view.
Optical Tube Designs
VMC Catadioptric
Vixen’s modified Cassegrain optics produce sharp and high contrast images.
It is a compace, easy to use telescope for both visual observing and
astrophotography.
VC200L Catadioptric
Vixen’s original high precision, Sixth order Aspherical Casserain (VSAC)
system produces an ideal phtotgraphic field without coma or curvature of
field. Highly recommended for serious astrophotography.
Newtonian Reflector
Vixen Newtonian Reflectors feature high performance at a fast focal ratio
with the introduction of advance high precision mirror formation
technologies.
Explanation of Terms
Resolving Power
Expressed in arc seconds, it determines how the
optical resolves fine details. The smaller the better,
but this will be affected by atmospheric conditions.
Magnitude Limit
The faintest stellar magnitude that can be viewed
through the optical tube.
Light Gathering Power
How much light the lens or primary mirror collect
as compared to observation by naked eye.
Achromatic Lens
Used in general refractor telescopes and prevents
chromatic aberration.
Apochromatic Lens
Uses ED (Extra Low Dispersion) Glass and corrects
chromatic aberration. This lens is ideal for
serious astrophotography.
