Setting Printer Environment 4 1 1.1 Printer Environments This section describes the different printer environments that can be set up for this machine. When connected to a computer directly, this machine can be used as a local printer. When connected to a network, this machine can be used as a network printer. As this machine supports multi-protocol, it can be shared among different network environments. 1.1.1 As Local Printer Using parallel interface Connects this machine to a computer by parallel interface for printing. Use only parallel interface cables provided by our company. Using parallel interface cables from other company may lead to electric wave obstruction.
1.1.2 As Network Printer Windows network (SMB) 1.1 Printer Environments Server Message Block (SMB) is a protocol for sharing file or printer on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Using SMB, print data or settings can be sent directly to a printer on the same network (Ethernet interface) without going through a server. You can begin printing by activating the SMB port, and then registering the printer on the network on each of the Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating system (OS). Depending on the network environment, you may need to set up IP address, subnet mask and gateway address for the printer.
