THE GENUINE HISTORY OF<br />

fibly felt into <strong>the</strong> ifland. And yet, by a flrange<br />

unhappinefs, <strong>the</strong> alledged hS. does not carry <strong>the</strong><br />

imalleft appearance <strong>of</strong> a pro<strong>of</strong> where it is firfl<br />

mentioned, and carries only <strong>the</strong> appearance <strong>of</strong><br />

one where it is mentioned again. <strong>The</strong> four firft<br />

quotations are not intended to au<strong>the</strong>nticate <strong>the</strong><br />

faft at all. Two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m only affert <strong>the</strong> Gauls<br />

to have been denominated Cimbri, and <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs only intimate <strong>the</strong> Cimbri <strong>of</strong> Germany to<br />
