to <strong>the</strong> Weft only <strong>of</strong> a fraall part, and to <strong>the</strong><br />

North and South <strong>of</strong> more. And <strong>the</strong> Pifts could<br />

ilill lefs be denominated <strong>the</strong> eaftern Gael, as<br />

p<strong>of</strong>lelling <strong>the</strong> eaftern coaft. <strong>The</strong>y p<strong>of</strong>lefled not<br />

merely " <strong>the</strong> fliore <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> German Ocean," as<br />

<strong>Mr</strong>. Macpherfon here fixes <strong>the</strong>ir dominions.<br />

But, according to his p<strong>of</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scots<br />

in Stra<strong>the</strong>rn before, <strong>the</strong> Pifts muft have occu-<br />

pied all <strong>the</strong> weftern Highlands particularly ;<br />

and, according to his p<strong>of</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Scots here,<br />

along <strong>the</strong> line <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> weftern Highlands, <strong>the</strong><br />

Pifts muft have enjoyed all <strong>the</strong> reft <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> coun-<br />

try. <strong>The</strong> Pi(5i:s p<strong>of</strong>lefled, in faiTl, <strong>the</strong> whole ex-<br />

tended compafs <strong>of</strong> Caledonia, except lar-gael,<br />
