or Lowlanders, by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Britons</strong> and Romans.<br />

And <strong>the</strong> inhabitants <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hills only are denominated<br />

Albanich, or Highlanders, at prefent. <strong>The</strong><br />

tribes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Caledonian Lowlands were deno-<br />

minated Mseatcc formerly, in contradiflinftion to<br />

<strong>the</strong> nations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> hills. And <strong>the</strong> clans <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Caledonian mountains are denominated Albanich<br />

or Highlanders at prefent, in opp<strong>of</strong>ition to th«<br />

refidents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lowlands.<br />

This fecond " decifive" and " conclufiv*" argument<br />

<strong>the</strong>refore, as<strong>the</strong>fecond, is no argument<br />

at all. It is only a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> firft. And, even<br />

in itfelf, it is nei<strong>the</strong>r decifive nor conclufive. It<br />

pretends only to be a probable pro<strong>of</strong>. And it is<br />

not even that. In every view, it has been fhewn<br />

to be gr<strong>of</strong>sly defe(^ive and erroneous.<br />
