*' with Gael." This is very true concerning <strong>the</strong><br />

Iri{h. But it is utterly untrue with regard to <strong>the</strong><br />

WelQi particularly. That is a principal dialect<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Celtic. And <strong>the</strong> Wellh Guidhil, which is<br />

die fame with <strong>the</strong> Irifh Gaidhel, and which Dr.<br />

Macpherfon exprefsly afferts to be pronounced<br />

like it, Gael S is not pronounced like it at all,<br />

but actually and fully Guidhil.—We have alfo an<br />

inftance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fame nature in p. 130. <strong>The</strong>re <strong>the</strong><br />

Welfh appellation for Ireland, Ywerdhon or<br />

Yverdhon, Is faid exprefsly to be " pronounced<br />

** Yberon or Yveron." And it is really pronounced,<br />

as it is written, Ywerdhon. — <strong>The</strong><br />

author's and his friend's acquaintance with " every<br />

" dialect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Celtic," did not extend to <strong>the</strong><br />

Welih. And his obfervation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> invariable<br />

quiefcence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> dh in Celtic, and his friend's<br />

remark on <strong>the</strong> pronunciation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> word Guid-<br />

hil, were both drawn, we fee, from a view <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> lri(h only.<br />
