Highlanders. And <strong>the</strong> relative adjeftive <strong>of</strong> this<br />

word is <strong>the</strong> very name, which <strong>Mr</strong>. Macpherfon<br />

has fo ingenioufly diftorted here. Gael and Gael<br />

leng<strong>the</strong>ning into Gal-ek and Cael-ich, Gallt mini<br />

be formed into Gallt-ach, and Gaeld into Gaeld-<br />

ach. And we have Gallt-ach in <strong>the</strong> Irilh lan-<br />

guage, <strong>the</strong> appellation for a Gaul at prefent.<br />

Gaeld-och and Gallt-ach <strong>the</strong>refore are one and<br />

<strong>the</strong> fame word, <strong>the</strong> relative adjeftives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

fame national appellation, Gaeld and Gallt<br />

and, in <strong>the</strong> fpirit <strong>of</strong> all o<strong>the</strong>r relative adjeftives,<br />

refer equally to an individual, <strong>the</strong> language, or<br />

<strong>the</strong> country, <strong>of</strong> France and Scotland. Thus eafily<br />

is <strong>the</strong> fpell diffolved, which held both Dr. and<br />

<strong>Mr</strong>. Macpherfon in abfolute bondage. And thus<br />

readily is <strong>the</strong> fabrick deftroyed, which was raifed<br />

by <strong>the</strong> magic hand <strong>of</strong> error, equally flight in its<br />

flrufture, and momentary in its continuance.<br />

That Caeldoch is <strong>the</strong> very fame word with<br />

Caledonia, is ano<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>Mr</strong>. Macpherfon's p<strong>of</strong>i-<br />

tions. But it is equally a miftake. And I hope con-<br />

vincingly to prove it. I (hall lay before <strong>the</strong> reader<br />

what I have faid upon this fubjeft in <strong>the</strong> Hiftory<br />

<strong>of</strong> Manchefler, and fhall make fome additions to<br />

it.—I have previoufly Ihewn <strong>the</strong> words Ga<strong>the</strong>l,<br />

Gael, Galat, Gait, Gaeld, and Celt, to be all one<br />

and <strong>the</strong> fame appellation. And, though <strong>Mr</strong>.<br />
