I have already Ihewn, that <strong>the</strong> Romans did<br />

eftablifh <strong>the</strong>mfelves in Caledonia, and that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

reduced one half even <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>genuine</strong> Caledoni-<br />

ans, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Britons</strong> to <strong>the</strong> North <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Friths.<br />

And as to <strong>the</strong> ignorance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Romans, con-<br />

cerning <strong>the</strong> interior hiftorj^ and origin <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ca-<br />

ledonians before <strong>the</strong>ir invafion, <strong>the</strong>y were equal-<br />

ly ignorant concerning <strong>the</strong> <strong>Britons</strong> in general.<br />
