Tiny watches graced the wrists<br />

of the women of the 1950s who<br />

CELEBRATED their femininity.<br />

in line with the style of the moment. e mid-19 th century<br />

saw a feminine pocketwatch with a ower motif<br />

encircled with pearls on its caseback. e watch originated<br />

from Agassiz & Compagnie, which later became<br />

Longines. Soon, opulently decorated pendant watches<br />

combining jewelry and timepieces became a Longines<br />

specialty. Whether in the style of the Belle Époque or<br />

Art Deco, the elegant display of time made Longines a<br />

leading manufacturer of jewelry watches.<br />

Entwining vines and garlands on watch dials showed<br />

the right time to women of the nature-inspired Art Nouveau<br />

era. Later, rectangular cases accompanied women<br />

along the path towards emancipation. Tiny watches<br />

graced the wrists of petticoat-wearing women of the<br />

1950s who celebrated their femininity. Playful, avant<br />

garde shapes and futuristic diamond creations showed<br />

the time during the more experimental years of the 1960s<br />

and ‘70s. ese watches displayed the time, and symbolized<br />

the spirit of the moment and the woman who selected<br />
