Wooden Kitchen Food: Baking Cookies
Melissa & Doug
A sweet skills treat, this set includes everything little bakers need! Cookies connect to each other
with touch-fasteners to form a tube of dough. Kids help build hand and arm strength as they use
the knife to slice the dough. Then, they use eye-hand coordination to attach each cookie to the
preplaced touch-fasteners on the cookie sheet (this added stability may benefit children who have
involuntary movements). Once “baked,” they can frost the cookies by selecting and placing the
frosting discs. Finally, children can share the cookies with family and friends while engaging in
simple verbal communications and formulating questions such as, “Would you like a cookie?” This
exquisitely crafted set includes cookie sheet, spatula, knife, oven mitt, cookie dough and frosting.
Wooden Sandwich Making Kit
Melissa & Doug
From simple stacking to imaginative play, this “food
feast” helps children develop and refine listening,
language, sequencing, color identification,
problem solving and cognitive skills. For example,
begin by placing an order. Your child must
remember what you’ve ordered, locate the correct
ingredients and make the sandwich.
Ask her to count how many pieces
make up the sandwich. You can
also have her predetermine the
order in which the ingredients are
assembled, as well as the color
of each food component. The
imaginary picnic possibilities
are endless! Includes
“sliceable” bread,
rolls, meat, cheese,
lettuce, tomatoes,
knife and more.
